STARTER DISASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the nut, and disconnect the lead wire from the magnet starter switch terminal.

      Loosen the 2 nuts holding the magnet starter switch assembly onto the starter housing.

      Pull the magnet starter switch assembly and while lifting the front part of the magnet starter switch assembly, release the plunger hook from the starter pinion driver lever, then remove the magnet starter switch assembly.

  2. REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 through bolts, and pull out the commutator end frame and starter yoke assembly together with the starter armature assembly.

  3. REMOVE STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 screws and the commutator end frame, and hold down the lead wire while releasing the commutator end frame.

      Note

      To avoid interference between the brush holder and the dust protector, pull the commutator end frame away at an angle.

    2. A005IDV

      Using a screwdriver, hold the spring back and disconnect the starter brush holder assembly.

    3. Disconnect the 4 brushes, and remove the brush holder.

  4. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the starter armature assembly from the starter yoke assembly.

  5. REMOVE STARTER CLUTCH SUB-ASSEMBLY

      *3 Starter Clutch with Shock Absorber

      Remove the starter pinion drive lever from the starter clutch with shock absorber.

      Using a screwdriver, tap in the stop collar toward the starter clutch sub-assembly.

      Using a screwdriver, pry off the snap ring.

    4. Remove the stop collar and starter clutch sub-assembly from the shock absorber.
