OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:


  • Prolonged and repeated contact with engine oil will result in the loss of natural oil from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.

  • Wear protective clothing and gloves. Avoid contact with used oil. If contact occurs, wash your skin thoroughly with soap or waterless hand cleaner. Never use gasoline, thinners, or solvents to wash the skin.

  • In order to protect the environment, dispose of used oil and used oil filters at designated disposal sites only.

PROCEDURE


  1. DRAIN ENGINE OIL


    1. Remove the oil filler cap.

    2. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.

    3. Clean the oil drain plug.

    4. Install the oil drain plug with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      38 N*m  { 387 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf }

  2. REMOVE OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 clips and open the service cover.

      Using SST, remove the oil filter cap assembly.

      Tech Tips

      As the oil filter cap assembly is loosened, when the clip on the oil filter cap assembly is facing down or up, oil will spill out of the oil filter cap assembly.

  3. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT

    1. Remove the oil filter element and O-ring from the oil filter cap assembly.

  4. INSTALL OIL FILTER ELEMENT

    1. Clean the inside of oil filter cap assembly, threads, and O-ring groove.

    2. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring for the cap, and then install the O-ring to the groove of the oil filler cap assembly.

      Note


      • Be sure to install the O-ring in the proper location, otherwise oil may leak.

      • Do not twist the O-ring.

    3. Set a new oil filter element to the oil filler cap assembly.

    4. Remove any dirt or foreign matter from the contact surfaces of the oil filter cap assembly (with oil filter element) and oil filter bracket.

    5. Install the oil filter cap assembly (with oil filter element) to the oil filter bracket.

  5. INSTALL OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

    1. Using SST, tighten the oil filter cap assembly.

      25 N*m  { 255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      After tightening the oil filter cap assembly, make sure that there is no gap and that the O-ring is not protruding.

    2. A005MDL

      Close the service cover with the 2 clips.

  6. ADD ENGINE OIL


    1. Add clean engine oil and install the oil filler cap.

      Standard Capacity
      Item Capacity
      Drain and refill with oil filter change 3.9 liters (4.1 US qts, 3.4 Imp. qts)
      Drain and refill without oil filter change 3.5 liters (3.7 US qts, 3.1 Imp. qts)
      Dry fill 4.5 liters (4.8 US qts, 4.0 Imp. qts)

  7. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

  8. INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK


    1. Start the engine. Check for engine oil leaks from the connected parts of the oil filter cap assembly and oil filter drain plug.
