PROCEDURE
INSPECT TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY
Check the resistance.
| *a | Component without harness connected (Turbocharger Sub-assembly) |
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
| Standard Resistance | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
If the result is not as specified, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
VISUALLY CHECK TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY
| *1 | Turbine Wheel |
Check for deformation and cracks in the turbine wheel on the exhaust side.
If the turbine wheel is cracked or deformed, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
CHECK TURBINE SHAFT ROTATION
Rotate the turbine wheel on the exhaust side with your finger and check that it rotates smoothly.
Tech Tips
Even if it takes effort a little to rotate the turbine wheel, this is not a problem.
If the turbine wheel does not rotate smoothly, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
Move the turbine wheel as shown in the illustration and check that there is no looseness*in the shaft and it does not contact the housing.
If there is any contact with the housing or obvious looseness in the shaft, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
Tech Tips
*: A clearance on the order of 100 μm exists between the turbine shaft and bearings. If it is difficult to judge the looseness of turbine shaft, perform same inspection on another vehicle which has the same turbocharger and compare the clearance.
