CYLINDER HEAD DISASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE NO. 1 VALVE ROCKER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the 16 valve rocker arms.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.

  2. REMOVE VALVE LASH ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the 16 valve lash adjusters from the cylinder head.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.

  3. REMOVE NO. 1 WITH HEAD TAPER SCREW PLUG


    1. A005GON

      Using a 14 mm(0.55 in.) socket hexagon wrench, remove the No. 1 with head taper screw plug and the gasket.

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 WITH HEAD TAPER SCREW PLUG


    1. A005LVU

      Using an 8 mm (0.31 in.) hexagon wrench, remove the No. 2 with head taper screw plug.

  5. REMOVE OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER


    1. Remove the oil control valve filter.

  6. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD OIL NOZZLE


    1. Remove the cylinder head oil nozzle.

  7. REMOVE VALVE STEM CAP


    1. Remove the 16 valve stem caps.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.

  8. REMOVE INTAKE VALVE


    1. A005H81E01

      Using SST, compress the valve spring and remove the 2 retainer locks, retainer and valve spring.

      Tech Tips

      Keep the intake valves, valve springs, valve spring seats and spring retainers in the correct order so that they can be returned to their original locations when reassembled.

  9. REMOVE EXHAUST VALVE


    1. Using SST, compress the valve spring and remove the 2 retainer locks, retainer and valve spring.

      Tech Tips

      Keep the exhaust valves, valve springs, valve spring seats and spring retainers in the correct order so that they can be returned to their original locations when reassembled.

  10. REMOVE VALVE STEM OIL SEAL


    1. A005INO

      Using needle-nose pliers, remove the valve stem oil seals.

  11. REMOVE VALVE SPRING SEAT


    1. A005LSM

      Using compressed air and a magnetic finger, remove the valve spring seats.

  12. REMOVE STUD BOLT


    1. Using an E5 and E7 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 11 stud bolts.

  13. REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP SETTING RING PIN


    1. Remove the 2 camshaft bearing cap setting ring pins.
