Note

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

PROCEDURE


  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the tester on.

    4. Enter the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Starter Signal.

    5. Fully depress the clutch pedal.

    6. Read the value displayed on the intelligent tester when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and start positions.

  2. CHECK ST RELAY (POWER SOURCE)

      *2 ST Relay Holder

      Remove the ST relay from the engine room main relay block.

    2. Fully depress the clutch pedal.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Ignition Switch Position Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - Body ground START 11 to 14 V

      Tech Tips

      The engine will not crank because the relay is not installed.

    4. Reinstall the ST relay.

  3. INSPECT ST RELAY


    1. Inspect the ST relay Click here.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND)


    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room main relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall the ST relay.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - CLUTCH START SWITCH ASSEMBLY)


    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room main relay block.

    2. Disconnect the clutch start switch assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - A39-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 or A39-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reinstall the ST relay.

    5. Reconnect the clutch start switch assembly connector.

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - ENGINE STOP AND START ECU)


    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room main relay block.

    2. Disconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - A53-4 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 or A53-4 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reinstall the ST relay.

    5. Reconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.

    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room main relay block.

    2. Disconnect the power management control ECU connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - A52-5 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 or A52-5 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the ST relay.

    5. Reconnect the power management control ECU connector.

  8. INSPECT CLUTCH START SWITCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Inspect the clutch start switch assembly Click here.

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLUTCH START SWITCH ASSEMBLY - IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY)


    1. Disconnect the clutch start switch assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ignition switch assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A39-2 - F13-7 (ST2) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A39-2 or F13-7 (ST2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the clutch start switch assembly connector.

    5. Reconnect the ignition switch assembly connector.

  10. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      5 (AM2) - 7 (ST2) START Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ignition switch assembly connector.

    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ignition switch assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      B69-4 (B) - F13-7 (ST2) Always Below 1 Ω
