DESCRIPTION

A005HGXE20
DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0013

Open or short in camshaft timing oil control valve (for exhaust camshaft) circuit

(1 trip detection logic)

  • Open or short in camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) circuit

  • Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft)

  • ECM

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

This DTC is designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve duty cycle is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait for 5 seconds or more.

Tech Tips

  • If DTC P0013 is displayed, check the VVT system (for exhaust camshaft) circuit.

  • Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FOR DTC (P0013)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs after recording the freeze frame data and DTCs.

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    4. Start the engine and allow it to idle. Then check for DTCs.

    5. Check that P0013 is not output.

      OK
      P0013 is not output.

    OK

  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT)

    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly Click here.

    NG
    OK
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      for RHD
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B64-1 - B23-65 (OE1+) Always Below 1 Ω
      B64-2 - B23-64 (OE1-) Always Below 1 Ω
      for LHD
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B64-1 - B22-65 (OE1+) Always Below 1 Ω
      B64-2 - B22-64 (OE1-) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      for RHD
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B64-1 or B23-65 (OE1+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B64-2 or B23-64 (OE1-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      for LHD
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition

      B64-2 or B22-64 (OE1-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) connector.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
