    Ignition coil assembly

    EGR valve assembly

    Air leaks from intake system

    Gas leaks from exhaust system

    Confirm the engine condition:

Perform memory reset and idle learning when at least one of the following conditions is met.

    1. A diagnostic trouble code had been output before the replacement.

    2. The A/F learning value (one of the A/F Learn Value Idle #1, A/F Learn Value Low #1, A/F Learn Value Mid1 #1, A/F Learn Value Mid2 #1, and A/F Learn Value High #1) displayed in the ECU data monitor was out of +/- 15% before the replacement.

    3. Starting failure, Rough idle, or engine stall occurs after the replacement.

The engine condition does not match the list above. - -

    • ○: Performing is necessary.

    • -: Performing is unnecessary.

    Note

The engine learning value cannot be reset by disconnecting the battery negative (-) terminal or removing the EFI MAIN or ETCS fuse.

    • *1: Learning Value Reset

      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Turn the tester on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Learning Value Reset.

      5. Confirm the following conditions displayed on the screen.

        • - Ignition switch ON

        • - Engine stopped

        • - Battery voltage is 9 V or more

      6. After confirming, select "Next" and initialize the learn value.

        Tech Tips

When the failure of the learn value initialization is displayed on the screen, confirm the execution conditions, and perform the learn value initialization again.

      7. After the completion of the learn value initialization, confirm the A/F learn values (A/F Learn Value Idle #1, A/F Learn Value Low #1, A/F Learn Value Mid1 #1, A/F Learn Value Mid2 #1, and A/F Learn Value High #1) in the "Data List".

        Result
If 0 is displayed as all the A/F learn values, the initialization has been completed correctly.
If a numerical value other than 0 is displayed as one of the A/F learn values, perform the initialization again. After the initialization, confirm the A/F learn values. If a numerical value other than 0 is displayed, replace the ECM.
    • *2: Idle Learning

      1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

      2. Start the engine and warm it up until the ECT reaches 80°C (176°F) or higher.

        Tech Tips

The learning starts when the water temperature is 80°C or higher.

      3. After the engine is warmed up, keep idling for 5 minutes with the air conditioning and electric load off.

      4. Confirm that the idling speed is within the standard value.

        Standard (for CVT)
        Condition Engine Idle Speed
        A/C switched off 600 to 700 rpm
        Standard (for Manual Transaxle)
        Condition Engine Idle Speed
        A/C switched off 550 to 650 rpm

        Tech Tips

        • Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off.

        • Make sure that the shift lever is in P or neutral.

    • *3: Perform memory reset and idle learning after replacing the throttle with motor body assembly or cleaning the deposit of the throttle body.

After that, check the idling speed. If the value is out of the standard value, perform the procedure below.

      Tech Tips

The history information of driving and stopping is necessary to update the ISC learning.

      A005K4ZE33
      *1 10 km/h (6.25 mph)
      *2 Idling
      *3 Ignition Switch ON
      *4 20 seconds or more

      1. Warm up the engine (coolant temperature is 80°C or higher, the air conditioning and electric load are off). [A]

      2. Drive the vehicle at approximately 10 km/h (6.25 mph).

      3. Idle the engine for 20 seconds or more.

      4. Repeat step (b) and (c), and check that the idling speed becomes within the standard value. [B]

        Standard (for CVT)
        Condition Engine Idle Speed
        A/C switched off 600 to 700 rpm
        Standard (for Manual Transaxle)
        Condition Engine Idle Speed
        A/C switched off 550 to 650 rpm

        CAUTION:

When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

        Tech Tips

        • Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off.

        • Make sure that the shift lever is in P or neutral.

        • If the idling speed is still out of the standard value, repeat step (b) and (c) until it becomes within the standard value. [C]

    • *4: Drive the vehicle for a short while after replacing the knock control sensor, and then check if knocking occurs. When it occurs, drive the vehicle for a while.
