AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
When the light control switch is in the AUTO position, the automatic light control sensor detects ambient light levels and outputs a signal to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU). The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) controls the low beam headlights, clearance lights, taillights and license plate lights.
LIGHT AUTO TURN-OFF SYSTEM (w/ Rear Fog Light)
The light auto turn-off system is used to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the headlights, front fog lights*, rear fog lights, clearance lights, taillights or license plate lights on.
| Switch Condition | Outline |
|---|---|
| Light control switch in AUTO position | While the lights (headlights, front fog lights*, rear fog lights and taillights or license plate lights) are turned on, this control automatically turns them off when the ignition switch is turned from ON to off. |
| Light control switch in TAIL or HEAD position | While the lights (headlights, front fog lights*, rear fog lights and taillights or license plate lights) are turned on, this control automatically turns off only headlights and the front fog lights* when the ignition switch is turned from ON to off. |
*: w/ Front Fog Light
LIGHT AUTO TURN-OFF SYSTEM (w/o Rear Fog Light)
The light auto turn-off system is used to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the headlights, clearance lights, taillights or license plate lights on.
When all of the following conditions are met, the exterior lights turn off:
The ignition switch is turned from ON to off.
The headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights are on.
The driver door is opened.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM (w/ Rear Fog Light)
The daytime running light system is designed to automatically illuminate the low beam headlights, taillights, clearance lights and license plate lights during the daytime to make the vehicle more visible to other vehicles
This system is controlled by the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).
This system is enabled when the following conditions are met:
Ignition switch is on.
Engine speed signal input (engine running).
The light control switch is in off or AUTO position (and the low beam headlights are not turned on via the automatic light control system).
FOLLOW ME HOME SYSTEM (w/ Rear Fog Light)
The follow me home system is designed to illuminate the low beam headlights for certain period after the vehicle is parked.
This system is controlled by the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).
This system is enabled when the following conditions are met:
Ignition switch is off.
The light control switch is in off or AUTO position.
The dimmer switch is pulled to flash headlights once.
HID HEADLIGHT SYSTEM
The HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlight system uses a discharge headlight bulb as its light source for the low beam headlight. Discharge headlight bulbs are superior to halogen bulbs.
Discharge headlight bulbs have the following features:
The light emitted by the bulb is close in color to sunlight. The light shines ahead over a broader area and further forward, increasing the area visible to the driver.
Less power is consumed.
This system consists of the discharge headlight bulbs and headlight light control ECU sub-assembly.
The headlight light control ECU sub-assembly transforms the voltage that is input from the battery to a high voltage of up to 22000 V and applies it to the discharge bulbs in order to illuminate them.
A fail-safe function is provided as a countermeasure against the high voltage that is generated if a problem occurs in the headlight system.
MANUAL HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM
When the vehicle posture changes in accordance with the number (weight) of passengers and volume of luggage, this system enables the adjustment of the low beam level (11 steps) of the headlights manually to the appropriate level based on the position of the headlight leveling switch.
The beam level of the headlight can be adjusted by the headlight leveling motor that is installed in the headlight assembly.
The headlight leveling switch allows the driver to control this system.
AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM (w/ HID Headlight)
When the low beam headlights are on, the automatic headlight beam level control system operates the headlight leveling motor in accordance with movement of the vehicle. The headlight leveling ECU assembly controls the system.
Note
Initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of the suspension or after performing such operations as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH.
Initialization is also necessary when the headlight leveling ECU assembly is replaced.
Function and construction of components
| Components | Function and Construction |
|---|---|
| Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly RH | Detects the vehicle height. |
| Combination Meter Assembly |
|
| Headlight Leveling Motor | Based on the signals received from the headlight leveling ECU assembly, each motor moves the reflector in the headlight to vary its low beam height. |
| DLC3 | The height control sensor signal initialization and headlight leveling motor operation check can be performed via the DLC3. |
| Headlight Leveling ECU assembly |

Fail-safe
The headlight leveling ECU assembly operates in fail-safe mode if an abnormal condition has been detected, and illuminates the automatic headlight beam level control system warning light in the combination meter when a malfunction is detected in the headlight beam level control system.
