BACK DOOR SUPPORT INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL BACK DOOR STAY BOLT


    1. Clean the threaded portion on the vehicle body with a non-residue solvent.

    2. Apply adhesive to the threads of the back door stay bolt.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
    3. Install the back door stay bolt.

      Torque:
      22 N*m  { 224 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf }
  2. INSTALL BACK DOOR DAMPER STAY UPPER BRACKET


    1. Clean the threaded portion on the vehicle body with a non-residue solvent.

    2. Apply adhesive to the threads of the 2 bolts.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
    3. Install the back door damper stay upper bracket with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      7.5 N*m  { 77 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf }
  3. INSTALL BACK DOOR STAY ASSEMBLY

    Note


    • Avoid touching the stroke portions of the rod as much as possible to prevent foreign matter from attaching to the stroke portions. Be sure to hold the cylinders while servicing.

    • Do not wear cotton gloves or other similar materials when handling the rod. Fibers may attach to the rod and result in gas leaks.

    • Do not apply any load to the cylinders in the horizontal direction, in order to prevent the rod from being deformed.


    1. Fit the 2 stop rings to the back door stay assembly.

    2. Install the back door stay assembly.

      Note

      Install the back door stay while supporting the back door by hand.

    3. Check that the back door stay assembly is attached at the ball joint and that the back door stay assembly cannot be pulled off.
