    Tech Tips

    Using the intelligent tester to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

    Note

    In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body / Power Source Control / Data List.

    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the intelligent tester.

      • Use this item to determine whether the stop light switch is malfunctioning.

      • The hybrid control system cannot be started when this item is "OFF".

      • When this item is malfunctioning, the hybrid control system can be started by pressing and holding the power switch for a certain period of time.

      Start Switch1 Condition of power switch contact 1/ON or OFF

      ON: Power switch pressed

      OFF: Power switch not pressed


      • If the power switch is pressed for a short time, the display may not change.

      • Use this item to determine whether the power switch input signal is malfunctioning.

      Start Switch2 Condition of power switch contact 2/ON or OFF

      ON: Power switch pressed

      OFF: Power switch not pressed


      • This is the backup for power switch 1.

      • Behaves the same way as power switch 1.

      Latch Circuit Condition of IG related backup circuit (IG hold circuit)/ON or OFF

      ON: Power switch on (IG)

      OFF: Power switch off

      This item behaves in almost the same way as the IG1 and IG2 relays.
      IG1 Relay Monitor (Outside) IG1 relay activation/ON or OFF

      ON: IG1 relay on

      OFF: IG1 relay off

      As this is the IG1 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the power switch is on (ACC).
      IG1 Relay Monitor (Inside) IG1 relay activation/ON or OFF

      ON: IG1 relay on

      OFF: IG1 relay off

      As this is the IG1 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the power switch is on (ACC).
      IG2 Relay Monitor (Outside) IG2 relay activation/ON or OFF

      ON: IG2 relay on

      OFF: IG2 relay off

      As this is the IG2 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the power switch is on (ACC).
      IG2 Relay Monitor (Inside) IG2 relay activation/ON or OFF

      ON: IG2 relay on

      OFF: IG2 relay off

      As this is the IG2 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the power switch is on (ACC).
      Starter Request Signal Condition of hybrid control system start command signal/ON or OFF

      ON: Power switch pressed and held while carrying key with park (P) selected and brake pedal depressed

      OFF: Power switch released after approximately 1 second elapses


      • This item displays "ON" when starting the hybrid control system.

      • The hybrid control system cannot be started when this item is "OFF".

      ACC Relay Monitor ACC relay activation/ON or OFF

      This item displays "OFF" when starting the hybrid control system.
      Ready Signal Status of the ready signal/ON or OFF

      Use this item to determine if the P position signal is malfunctioning.

      ACC ON: Power switch on (ACC) (ACC relay on)

      IG1 ON: Power switch on (IG) (IG1 relay on)

      ST ON: Starting hybrid control system

      Since IG1 ON and IG2 ON turn "on" at approximately the same time, IG1 ON may not be displayed (IG1 ON turns on for a very short time).

      NG: Circuit malfunctioning


      • Use this item when determining whether the IG2 relay is malfunctioning.

      • The hybrid control system cannot be started when this item displays "NG".

      Starter Switch Signal Mismatch Power switch signal 1 and 2 mismatch/Yes or No

      Yes: Switch malfunctioning (power switch signal 1 and 2 do not match)

      No: Switch normal

      The hybrid control system can be started, even if this item displays "Yes".
      Park Signal Mismatch Park (P) signal malfunction/Yes or No

      Yes: Signal malfunction (CAN communication and direct line signal do not match)

      No: Signal normal

      The hybrid control system can be started, even if this item displays "Yes".

      Other potential causes:


      • A key from a different vehicle is being used.

      • A communication error due to electric wave interference.

      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      No Response Communication response / Yes or No

      Yes: Communication malfunction

      No: Communication normal

      The vehicle IDs registered in the vehicle and key match, but there is no response from the key. (If the key is not in the detection area or the key battery is depleted resulting in a matching code not being detected when a lock switch or the power switch is pressed, etc., "Yes" is displayed for "No Response" in the Data List. Also, if there is electric wave interference in the 134 kHz band (RF) that the vehicle uses for transmission or the 312 MHz band (RF) that the key uses for transmission, "Yes" may be displayed for "No Response" in the Data List.)

      Other potential causes:


      • A key from a different vehicle is being used.

      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      Unmatch Code or Form Code format (incorrect or correct) / Yes or No

      Yes: Communication malfunction

      No: Communication normal

      There is an error in the data sent from the key (if there is electric wave interference in the 312 MHz band (RF) that the key uses for transmission, "Yes" may be displayed for "Unmatch Code or Form", "No Response", "ID Code Difference(Resp)" and "C Code Difference" in the Data List).

      Other potential causes:


      • A key from a different manufacturer is being used.

      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      Key Low Battery Key battery depleted / Yes or No

      Yes: Key battery depleted

      No: Key battery not depleted

      The key sends voltage information to the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) when it is transmitting. The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) displays "Yes" for the "Key Low Battery" item of the Data List when this voltage information indicates 2.1 V or less. This Data List item should be checked when the key is at room temperature (example: at -20°C (-4°F), "Yes" may be displayed even if the key battery is new).

      Other potential causes:


      • A key from a different vehicle is being used.

      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      C Code Difference Challenge code (incorrect or correct) / Yes or No

      Yes: Communication malfunction

      No: Communication normal

      The key sends a response code in response to the challenge code from the vehicle, but the response code is incorrect (if there is electric wave interference in the 312 MHz band (RF) that the key uses for transmission, "Yes" may be displayed for "Unmatch Code or Form", "No Response", "ID Code Difference(Resp)" and "C Code Difference" in the Data List).

      Other potential causes:


      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      ID Code Difference Wireless ID code (incorrect or correct) / Yes or No

      Yes: Communication malfunction

      No: Communication normal

      The ID code registered in the vehicle and the ID code registered in the key are different. (If a wireless ID other than those for any of the registered keys is detected, "Yes" is displayed for "ID Code Difference" in the Data List. If a wireless signal from the key of another vehicle is detected, "Yes" is displayed for "ID Code Difference(Resp)" in the Data List.)

      Other potential causes:


      • A key from a different vehicle is being used.

      • A communication error due to external noise (RF).

      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      Different Rolling Code Rolling code (incorrect or correct) / Yes or No

      Yes: Communication malfunction

      No: Communication normal

      The rolling code registered in the vehicle and the rolling code registered in the key are different.

      Other potential causes:


      • A key switch is pressed 100 times or more in a location where the electric waves cannot reach the vehicle.

      • A communication error due to external noise (RF).

      • The key or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

      Auto Entry Cancel SW Push-button start cancel function setting / OFF or ON

      Mode status displayed

      ON: Push-button start canceled

      OFF: Push-button start not canceled

      The default setting for the push-button start cancel function is OFF. If the customer requests that the push-button start functions to be canceled, the setting can be changed through the customize function Click here.

      Engine Start Request Reception state of engine start permission signal determined by transmission control ECU and sent to certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)/OK or NG

      OK: Receiving signal

      NG: Not receiving signal


      • When this item displays "OK", the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) has received an unlock confirmation signal from the transmission control ECU and has permitted hybrid control system start.

      • The hybrid control system cannot be started when this item displays "NG".

      S Code Check Verification result between certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and ID code box (immobiliser code ECU)/NG or OK

      OK: Verification result normal

      NG: Verification result abnormal

      When a malfunction is present:


      • The ID code for the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) or ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) is not registered or the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) or ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) is malfunctioning.

      • The gearshift control cannot be locked.

      • The gearshift control cannot be unlocked (the hybrid control system cannot be started).

      L Code Check Verification result between ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) and transmission control ECU/NG or OK

      OK: Verification result normal

      NG: Verification result abnormal

      When a malfunction is present:


      • The ID code for the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) or transmission control ECU is not registered or the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) or transmission control ECU is malfunctioning.

      • The gearshift control cannot be locked.

      • The gearshift control cannot be unlocked (the hybrid control system cannot be started).

      Unlock Request Receive

      Reception state of steering unlock command signal sent to ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) determined by certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)/NG or OK

      Tech Tips

      The reception state is maintained for 10 seconds.

      OK: Within 10 seconds of turning power switch on (IG) or on (ACC) or starting hybrid control system

      NG: Except above

      If the unlock signal has not been received, the hybrid control system cannot be started.

      If this item does not change to "OK" even though the gearshift control unlock conditions are met, the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) may be malfunctioning.

  2. ACTIVE TEST

    Tech Tips

    Using the intelligent tester to perform Active Tests allows relay, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body / Power Source Control / Active Test.

    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the intelligent tester.
