REAR AXLE HUB BOLT REPLACEMENT

Note


  • When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

  • While the battery is connected, even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or any door courtesy switch turns on. Therefore, when servicing brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal or open/close the doors while the battery is connected.

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. REMOVE REAR FLOOR MAT

      Remove the rear floor mat.

  2. REMOVE REAR DECK FLOOR BOX

      Remove the rear deck floor box.

  3. REMOVE BATTERY BOX COVER


    1. A003UZD

      Disengage the 3 guides and remove the battery box cover.

  4. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL


    1. Wait at least 2 minutes after the power switch off.

      Note

      When the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch is turned on even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates. Therefore do not depress the brake pedal or open/close the doors until the reservoir level switch connector is disconnected.

    2. A003S3N

      Disconnect the reservoir level switch connector with the parking brake applied.

    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

    4. Depress the brake pedal 40 times or more to return all the fluid in the accumulator back to the reservoir.

    5. Check that the brake pedal can not be further depressed.

    6. Release the parking brake.

  5. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  6. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX COVER

      Disengage the 4 clips.

    2. Disengage the 2 guides.

    3. Disconnect the connector and remove the rear console box cover.

  7. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE


    1. Completely release the parking brake.

      Loosen the lock nut and adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

  8. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      *3 Offset Wrench (14 mm (0.551 in.))

      Separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Insert an offset wrench (14 mm (0.551 in.)) at the base of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration to disengage the clip. Pull out the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  9. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      Note

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  10. REMOVE REAR DISC

      Remove the rear disc.

      Tech Tips

      Place matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.

  11. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB BOLT

      Temporarily install 2 nuts to the rear axle hub bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Recommended service nut
      Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)

      Note

      Install the nuts to prevent damage to the hub bolts.

    2. Using SST and a brass bar or an equivalent tool to hold the rear axle hub and bearing assembly, remove the rear axle hub bolt.

      Note

      Do not damage the threads of the rear axle hub bolts.

  12. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB BOLT

      *1 Nut
      *2 Washer

      Temporarily install a new rear axle hub bolt to the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

    2. Install a washer and nut to the new rear axle hub bolt as shown in the illustration.

      Recommended service nut
      Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)

      Tech Tips

      The thickness of the washer is preferably 5 mm (0.197 in.) or more.

    3. Using a brass bar or an equivalent tool to hold the rear axle hub and bearing assembly, install the rear axle hub bolt by tightening the nut.

      Note


      • Install the nuts to prevent damage to the hub bolts.

      • Do not damage the threads of the rear axle hub bolts.

    4. Remove the 3 nuts and washer from the 3 rear axle hub bolts.

  13. INSTALL REAR DISC

      *5 Matchmark

      Align the matchmarks of the disc and axle hub, and install the disc.

      Note

      When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

  14. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      57 N*m  { 585 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf }
  15. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      *2 Clip

      Install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Be sure to engage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly clip onto the rear disc brake cylinder assembly as shown in the illustration.

    2. A003TMYE02

      Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  16. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

  17. INSTALL REAR CONSOLE BOX COVER


    1. Connect the connector.

    2. Engage the 2 guides and 4 clips to install the rear console box cover.

  18. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
  19. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

    2. Connect the reservoir level switch connector.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.

  20. INSTALL BATTERY BOX COVER


    1. Engage the 3 guides to install the battery box cover.

  21. INSTALL REAR DECK FLOOR BOX


    1. Install the rear deck floor box.

  22. INSTALL REAR FLOOR MAT


    1. Install the rear floor mat.
