KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION


  1. INSPECT DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)

    CAUTION:

    Be sure to correctly follow the removal and installation procedures for the driver side knee airbag assembly.


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check Click here.

    2. Visually check for defects with the driver side knee airbag assembly installed on the vehicle.


      1. The defects are as follows:


        • Cuts on the driver side knee airbag assembly

        • Small cracks on the driver side knee airbag assembly

        • Significant discoloration on the driver side knee airbag assembly

        OK
        No defects are found.

        Tech Tips

        If any of the defects is found, replace the driver side knee airbag assembly with a new one.

  2. INSPECT DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check Click here.

    2. Visually check for defects with the driver side knee airbag assembly removed from the vehicle.


      1. The defects are as follows:


        • Cuts on the driver side knee airbag assembly

        • Small cracks on the driver side knee airbag assembly

        • Significant discoloration on the driver side knee airbag assembly

        • Cracks or other damage to the connector

        • Deformation or cracks on the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement

        OK
        No defects are found.

        Tech Tips

        If any of the defects is found, replace the driver side knee airbag assembly, instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement with a new one.
