METER / GAUGE SYSTEM Speedometer Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The meter ECU receives vehicle speed signals from the skid control ECU via the CAN communication system (CAN V1 Bus). The wheel speed sensors detect the wheel speed and send signals to the skid control ECU. The skid control ECU supplies power to the speed sensors. The skid control ECU detects the vehicle speed based on the pulses of the voltage.

Tech Tips


  • Factors that affect the indicated vehicle speed include tire size, tire inflation, and tire wear. The speed indicated on the speedometer has an allowable margin of error.   1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM


    1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output Click here.

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (SPEED METER OPERATION)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body / Combination Meter / Active Test.

    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

  4. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FR/FL/RR/RL WHEEL SPEED, VEHICLE SPEED METER)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus:


      1. for ABS/VSC/TRC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Data List.

      2. for Combination Meter: Body / Combination Meter / Data List.

    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY


    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or a known good one Click here.
