DESCRIPTION

This DTC is stored when the combination meter assembly detects a malfunction in the fuel sender gauge circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE


  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FUEL INPUT)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body / Combination Meter / Data List.

    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

  2. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the E46 connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY)


    1. Disconnect the L17 connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E46-25 (L) - L17-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      E46-25 (L) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E46-10 (E) - L17-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω

  4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly Click here.

    2. Check that the float moves smoothly between E and F.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Float level is F (upper) 12 to 18 Ω
      1 - 2 Float level is between F (upper) and E (lower) 12 to 415 Ω (Gradually changes)
      1 - 2 Float level is E (lower) 405 to 415 Ω
