THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM

    • The theft deterrent system can be set by locking the doors using the transmitter or the entry and start system.

    • The alarm function will activate when someone attempts to forcibly unlock any of the doors or open any of the doors, engine hood, or back door while the system is in the armed state.

    • In the alarm sounding state, the system blinks the hazard warning lights. At the same time, the system sounds the vehicle horn and theft warning siren to deter break-in and theft as well as to warn people around the vehicle.

    • The theft deterrent system has the active arming mode. There are 4 states; a disarmed state, an arming preparation state, an armed state and an alarm sounding state.

    1. Disarmed state:

      • The alarm function is not operating.

      • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

    2. Arming preparation state:

      • The time until the system goes into the armed state.

      • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

    3. Armed state:

      • The theft deterrent system is operating.

    4. Alarm sounding state:

      • The alarm function is operating.

  • ACTIVE ARMING MODE

    Tech Tips

Active arming mode starts the alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.

    1. Active arming mode:

This system activates as described in the diagram below when one of the items for each condition is met.

      Tech Tips

The below terms "all doors" and "door" also refer to the back door.

      Condition Item
      Condition [1]

In the disarmed state 1, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met:

      • With all doors closed and the engine hood closed, all doors are locked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      Condition [2]
      • Allow approx. 30 seconds to elapse.

      Condition [3]
      • All doors are unlocked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      • Any door is unlocked.

      • Any door is opened.

      • The power switch is turned on (ACC or IG).

      • The battery is reconnected.

      Condition [4]
      • The engine hood is opened.

      • The battery is reconnected.

      • Theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) detects movement within vehicle.

      • Any door is opened when all doors are closed.

      • Any door is unlocked when all doors are locked.

      • When 5 seconds or more have elapsed after the power switch is turned off, the power switch is turned on (IG).

      • Glass breakage sensor detects that the back door glass is tapped or broken.

      Condition [5]
      • All doors are unlocked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      • When approx. 4 seconds or more have elapsed after the power switch is turned on (READY).

      Condition [6]
      • After approx. 27.5 seconds, the alarm stops and 5 seconds later the system returns to the armed state.

      Condition [7]
      • With all doors closed, the engine hood is closed.

      Condition [8]
      • Any door is unlocked when all doors are locked.

      • Any door is opened.

      • The power switch is turned on (ACC or IG).

      • The battery is reconnected.

      • All doors are unlocked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      Condition [9]

In disarmed state 1, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met:

      • With all doors closed and the engine hood opened, all doors are locked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      Condition [10]
      • The engine hood is open.

  • FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL

    1. The forced door lock control prevents the vehicle from being tampered with. Immediately after a door is unlocked (alarm starts), the door is forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.

      1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:

        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.

        • Any door is unlocked.

  • SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT

    1. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) outputs a signal to come on the security indicator, according to the state of the theft deterrent system. However, some of the actual lighting conditions of the security indicator are different from the output signals of the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

      Output
State of Theft Deterrent System Security Indicator
Output Signals from Man Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Actual Lighting Condition
      Disarmed state 1, 2 OFF

      OFF (Engine immobiliser system unset)

      BLINKING (Engine immobiliser system set)

      Arming preparation state ON ON
      Armed state OFF BLINKING
      Alarm sounding state ON ON
      Blinking Cycle
      Time Security Indicator
      0.2 sec. ON
      1.8 sec. OFF

      Tech Tips

When the engine immobiliser system is set, the security indicator blinks during both the disarmed state and the armed state, due to the output signals from the engine immobiliser system.

  • OPERATION OF INTRUSION SENSOR

    1. A intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) is provided in the map light assembly located in the front of the vehicle interior.

    2. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) activates the intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) when the system changes from the disarmed state to the armed preparation state. If an intrusion detection signal is input from the intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) during the armed state, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.

    3. When the system is in the disarmed state, the function of the intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) can be disabled by pressing the intrusion sensor cancel switch.

    4. The intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) may erroneously detect intrusion in the following states:

      1. Persons or pets are in the vehicle.

      2. The vehicle is parked in a place where extreme vibrations or noises occur, such as in a parking garage.

      3. Ice or snow is removed from the vehicle, causing the vehicle to receive repeated impacts or vibrations.

      4. The wind or something similar causes an externally mounted reflectively coated windshield cover to move.

      5. The intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) may react to a hanger or other objects hanging in the cabin when they drop or swing.

      6. The system changes to the armed state even when any of the windows or sliding roof is open. The intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) may react to objects moving outside the vehicle when any of the windows or sliding roof is open.

      7. The vehicle is inside an automatic or high-pressure car wash.

      8. The vehicle experiences impacts, such as hail, lightning strikes and other kinds of repeated impacts or vibrations.

  • THEFT WARNING (SELF-POWER) SIREN

    1. The theft warning siren has an internal battery. If any of the vehicle's battery or communication lines is opened, the theft warning siren detects it by itself and sounds. Although the theft warning siren usually sounds by receiving a signal from the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU), the theft warning siren can sound by its internal battery in case that the circuit of the vehicle's battery is opened.

    2. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) sends an arming signal to the theft warning siren when switching to the armed state, as well as sending a disarming signal to the siren when switching to the disarmed state.

Additionally, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) can sound the theft warning siren by sending an alarm signal in the alarm sounding state.

  • GLASS BREAKAGE SENSOR

    1. When the glass breakage sensor detects that the back door glass is tapped or broken during the armed state, the sensor will set off an alarm.

    2. When the system is in the disarmed state, the function of the glass breakage sensor can be disabled by pressing the intrusion sensor cancel switch. (The intrusion sensor (theft warning radar sensor) can be disabled at the same time.)
