TOYOTA PARKING ASSIST-SENSOR SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL

    1. This system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect any obstacles at the corners and the rear of the vehicle. The system then informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles as well as their positions by indicating them by sounding a buzzer.

  2. FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS

    Component Function
No. 1 Ultrasonic Sensor (4) Detects the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle
No. 1 Clearance Warning Buzzer Sounds the buzzer to inform the driver according to the distance to an obstacle
Back Sonar or Clearance Sonar Switch Assembly Turns the Toyota parking assist-sensor system on and off
    Clearance Warning ECU Assembly

Judges the approximate distance between the vehicle and an obstacle based on the signals from the ultrasonic sensors

    Sounds the buzzer

Power Management Control ECU Sends a signal to the clearance warning ECU assembly via the No. 1 integration relay to indicate that reverse (R) has been selected.
No. 1 Integration Relay Receives the signal (reverse (R) has been selected) that the power management control ECU sent and sends it to the clearance warning ECU assembly.
  3. OPERATION EXPLANATION

    1. The clearance warning ECU determines whether the Toyota parking assist-sensor system should be operated based on the back sonar or clearance sonar switch on/off status and the shift position.

    2. When the system operates, the ultrasonic sensors transmit ultrasonic waves to the clearance warning ECU assembly. If these waves encounter an obstacle within the range of one or more of the sensors, the waves are reflected back to the sensors, which transmit them to the ECU. Based on this information, the ECU sends signals to the clearance warning buzzer. The approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle is then judged, and the buzzer sounds.
