REAR AXLE HUB ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Note

When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, delete the DTC.

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

  2. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 FLOOR BOARD


    1. A01JB5ZE01

      Disengage the 2 guides <A> as shown in the illustration.

    2. Disengage the 3 guides <B> and remove the rear No. 2 floor board.

  3. REMOVE REAR DECK FLOOR BOX


    1. Remove the rear deck floor box.

  4. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 FLOOR BOARD

      Disengage the 2 guides and remove the rear No. 3 floor board.

  5. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL


    1. Wait at least 2 minutes after the power switch off.

      Note

      When the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch is turned on even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates. Therefore do not depress the brake pedal or open/close the doors until the reservoir level switch connector is disconnected.

      Disconnect the reservoir level switch connector with the parking brake applied.

    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

    4. Depress the brake pedal 40 times or more to return all the fluid in the accumulator back to the reservoir.

    5. Check that the brake pedal can not be further depressed.

    6. Release the parking brake.

  6. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  7. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for LHD)

      Disengage the 10 claws and remove the front door scuff plate LH.

  8. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for LHD)

      Remove the clip.

    2. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the cowl side trim sub-assembly LH.

  9. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

      Remove the screw <C>.

    2. A01J9JX

      Disengage the 6 claws and clip as shown in the illustration.

    3. A01J9TK

      Disengage the claw and 2 guides and disconnect the hood lock control cable.

    4. Disconnect each connector and clamp, and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel assembly.

  10. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

      Remove the screw <D>.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws and guide.

    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

  11. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE


    1. Completely release the parking brake pedal.

      Loosen the lock nut and adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

  12. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Insert an offset wrench (14 mm) at the base of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration to disengage the clip. Pull out the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  13. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      Note

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  14. REMOVE REAR DISC

      Remove the rear disc.

      Tech Tips

      Place matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.

  15. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS

      Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the axle hub.

      Maximum looseness
      0.05 mm (0.00196 in.)

      Note


      • Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.

      • Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the rear axle hub and bearing (rear speed sensor).

      Tech Tips

      If the looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

  16. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT


    1. A01JADW

      Using a dial indicator, check for runout on the surface of the axle hub outside the rear axle hub bolt.

      Maximum runout
      0.05 mm (0.00196 in.)

      Note


      • Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.

      • Make sure to install the tip of the dial indicator towards the outside of the rear axle hub bolt.

      • Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the rear axle hub and bearing (rear speed sensor).

      Tech Tips

      If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

  17. INSTALL REAR DISC

      Align the matchmarks of the disc and axle hub, and install the disc.

      Note

      When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

  18. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

      Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      57 N*m  { 585 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf }
  19. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Be sure to engage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly clip onto the rear disc brake cylinder assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  20. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

  21. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for LHD)


    1. Connect each connector.

    2. Engage the clamp.

    3. Engage the 2 guides and claw to connect the hood lock control cable.

      Engage the 6 claws and clip.

    5. Install the lower instrument panel finish panel assembly with the screw <C>.

  22. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for LHD)

      Engage the 2 clips.

    2. Install the cowl side trim board LH with the clip.

  23. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for LHD)


    1. A01JB0N

      Engage the 10 claws to install the front door scuff plate LH.

  24. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RHD)


    1. Connect each connector.

    2. Engage the guide and 2 claws.

    3. Install the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly with the screw <D>.

  25. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
  26. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

    2. Connect the reservoir level switch connector.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.

  27. INSTALL REAR NO. 3 FLOOR BOARD


    1. A01JC33

      Engage the 2 guides to install the rear No. 3 floor board.

  28. INSTALL REAR DECK FLOOR BOX


    1. Install the rear deck floor box.

  29. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 FLOOR BOARD

      Engage the 3 guides <A>.

    2. Engage the 2 guides <B> and install the rear No. 2 floor board as shown in the illustration.
