REAR AXLE HUB ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedures listed below are for the LH side.


  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  2. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH Click here.

  3. REMOVE REAR DISC

      Place matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.

    2. Remove the rear disc.

  4. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS


    1. A005RYI

      Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the axle hub.

      Maximum looseness
      0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)

      Note

      Make sure Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.

      Tech Tips

      If the looseness more than the maximum, replace the axle hub assembly.

  5. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT


    1. A005UPY

      Using a dial indicator, check for runout on the surface of the axle hub inside the rear axle hub bolts.

      Maximum runout
      0.08 mm (0.00314 in.)

      Note


      • Make sure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.

      • Make sure to set the tip of the dial indicator inside the rear axle hub bolt.

      If the runout more than the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

  6. INSTALL REAR DISC

      Align the matchmarks of the disc and axle hub and install the disc.

      Note

      When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

  7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH Click here.

  8. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
