THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM

    • The theft deterrent system can be set by locking the doors using the transmitter or the entry and start system.

    • The alarm function will be activated when someone attempts to forcibly unlock any of the doors or open any of the doors, engine hood and back door while the system is in the armed state.

    • In the alarm sounding state, the hazard warning lights blink. At the same time, the system sounds the vehicle horns and theft warning siren*1 or security horn*2 to deter break-in and theft as well as to warn people around the vehicle.

    • The alarm can be cancelled by unlocking the doors using the transmitter or the entry and start system.

  • ACTIVE ARMING MODE

    Tech Tips

Active arming mode starts the alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.

    1. Active arming mode:

This system operates as described in the diagram below when one of the items for each condition is met.

      A0040ZZE03
      Condition Item
      Condition [1]

In disarmed state 1, when the key is not in a detection area with the power switch off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met.

      Condition [5]
      • All doors are unlocked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      • The power switch is turned on (ACC or IG) within 5 seconds after turning it off.

      • When 2 seconds or more have elapsed after turned the power switch on (READY).

      Condition [6]
      • After approx. 27.5 seconds, the alarm stops and 5 seconds later the system returns to the armed state.

      Condition [7]

      Condition [9]

In disarmed state 1, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met.

      • With all doors closed, and the engine hood or back door opened, all doors are locked by using wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      Condition [10]
      • With all doors and the back door closed, the engine hood is opened.

      • With all doors and the engine hood closed, the back door is opened.

      • *: w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch

  • FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL

    1. The forced door lock control prevents the vehicle from being tampered with. Immediately after a door is unlocked (alarm starts), all doors are forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.

      1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:

Both of the following conditions are met:

        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.

        • Any door is unlocked.

        Tech Tips

Forced door lock control does not operate if any door is unlocked by key operation.

  • OPERATION OF INTRUSION SENSOR (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch)

    1. An theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) is provided in the map light assembly located in the front of the vehicle interior.

    2. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) activates the theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) when the system changes from the disarmed state to the armed preparation state. If an intrusion detection signal is input from the theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) during the armed state, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.

      Tech Tips

If either of the following conditions is met when the theft deterrent system is in the armed state, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) will not activate the theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor):

      • The key is detected in a key detection area outside the cabin.

      • 30 seconds have not elapsed after the key left the key detection area outside the cabin.

    3. When the system is in the disarmed state, the function of the theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) can be disabled by pressing the intrusion sensor cancel switch.

    4. The theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) may erroneously detect intrusion in the following states:

      1. Persons or pets are in the vehicle.

      2. The vehicle is parked in a place where extreme vibrations or noises occur, such as in a parking garage.

      3. Ice or snow is removed from the vehicle, causing the vehicle to receive repeated impacts or vibrations.

      4. The wind or something similar causes an externally mounted reflectively coated windshield cover to move.

      5. The theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) may react to a hanger or other objects hanging in the cabin when they drop or swing.

      6. The system changes to the armed state even when any of the windows or sliding roof is open. The theft warning radar sensor (intrusion sensor) may react to objects moving outside the vehicle when any of the windows or sliding roof is open.

      7. The vehicle is inside an automatic or high-pressure car wash.

      8. The vehicle experiences impacts, such as hail, thunder and other kinds of repeated impacts or vibrations.

  • THEFT WARNING (SELF-POWER) SIREN (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch)

    1. The theft warning siren has an internal battery. If any of the auxiliary battery or communication lines are opened, the theft warning siren detects it by itself and sounds. The theft warning siren usually sounds by receiving a signal from the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

    2. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) sends an arming signal to the theft warning siren while switching to the armed state, as well as sending a disarming signal to the siren while switching to the disarmed state. Additionally, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) can sound the theft warning siren by sending an alarm signal in the alarm sounding state.

  • GLASS BREAKAGE SENSOR (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch)

    1. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) detects breakage of the back door glass (glass breakage sensor). If the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) detects breakage of the back door glass (glass breakage sensor wire) while the theft deterrent system is functioning, it will sound an alarm for 27.5 seconds.

  • SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT

    1. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) outputs a signal to turn on the security indicator light, according to the state of the theft deterrent system. However, some of the actual lighting conditions of the security indicator light are different from the output signals of the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

      Output

      Tech Tips

When the immobiliser system is set, the security indicator light blinks during both the disarmed state and armed state, due to output signals from the immobiliser system.
