CHECK POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MASTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (WINDOW LOCK SWITCH)
Tech Tips
Before performing the window lock switch operation check, make sure that the window lock switch is off (switch is not pushed in).
Check that the front passenger side power window and rear power windows cannot be operated when the window lock switch of the power window regulator master switch assembly is pressed.
Check that the front passenger side power window and rear power windows can be operated when the window lock switch is pressed again.
CHECK MANUAL UP/DOWN FUNCTION
Check that the driver side power window operates as follows:
| Condition | Power Window Regulator Master Switch Assembly | Switch Operation | Power Window Operation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ignition switch ON | Driver side | Pulled halfway up | Up (Closes) |
| Pushed halfway down | Down (Opens) |
Check that the front passenger side power window and rear power windows operate as follows:

| Rear LH side | Pulled up | Up (Closes) | |
| Pushed down | Down (Opens) | ||
| Rear RH side | Pulled up | Up (Closes) | |
| Pushed down | Down (Opens) |
CHECK AUTO UP/DOWN FUNCTION (for Driver Side)
Check the AUTO light illumination.
After turning the ignition switch to ON, check that the AUTO light illuminates (green).
Check that the driver side power window operates as follows:
| Condition | Power Window Regulator Master Switch Assembly | Switch Operation | Power Window Operation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ignition switch ON | Driver side | Fully pulled up | Auto up (Fully closes) |
| Fully pushed down | Auto down (Fully opens) |

CHECK PTC OPERATION
Tech Tips
PTC operation is a function that prevents overloading of the power window regulator by stopping the power window regulator motor. PTC operation activates when the power window regulator switch is operated for a predetermined amount of time.
Disconnect the power window regulator motor.
Connect the ammeter's positive (+) lead to terminal 2 of the wire harness side connector and the negative (-) lead to the battery's negative terminal.
Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 1 of the wire harness side connector, and raise that window to the fully closed position.
Continue to apply voltage, and check that the current changes to less than 1 A within 4 to 90 seconds.
Disconnect the leads from the terminals.
Approximately 60 seconds later, connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1 and check that the window begins to lower.
Note
If the result is not as specified, replace the power window regulator motor.
CHECK JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION (for Driver Side)
Check the basic function.
CAUTION:
The jam protection function is operative during the auto up operation.
Do not put your fingers between the door frame and door glass to check functions. Also, prevent any part of your body from being caught during inspection.
Tech Tips
The jam protection function is operative during the auto up operation while the engine is running or the ignition switch is turned to ON.
Fully open the window.
| *1 | Thick Book |
| *2 | Cloth |
Hold a thick book wrapped with cloth in the position shown in the illustration.
Operate the auto up function to check that the power window goes down when the window contacts the book, and stops when the opening reaches approximately 200 mm (7.87 in.).
Tech Tips
The power window moves down approximately 50 mm (1.97 in.). However, when the opening does not reach 200 mm (7.87 in.), the power window continues to go down until the opening reaches 200 mm (7.87 in.) or until approximately 5 seconds have elapsed.
While the power window is moving down, check that the door glass cannot be moved up even when the power window regulator master switch assembly is used.
CHECK POWER WINDOW FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION (for Driver Side)
The power window regulator motor's pulse sensors detect when an object has been jammed in the window. If a pulse sensor has a malfunction, the fail-safe function starts operating and the auto up/down function is disabled.
