FRONT AXLE HUB INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

  • A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart Click here.


  1. INSTALL PLUG (for Pre-Runner)

    1. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap in the plug.

  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB OIL SEAL

    1. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap in a new oil seal.

      Note

      Do not damage the spacer.

  3. INSTALL FRONT AXLE BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

    1. Using SST and a press, press a new bearing into the axle hub.

  4. INSTALL FRONT AXLE BEARING ASSEMBLY (for Pre-Runner)

    1. Using SST and a press, press a new bearing into the axle hub.

      SST

    2. w/o ABS:

      Install the spacer to the axle hub.

    3. A01J3BKE01

      Using SST, install a new adjusting nut.

      Torque:
      275 N*m  { 2,804 kgf*cm, 203 ft.*lbf }

  5. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB ASSEMBLY

    A01J310E01

    1. w/ ABS:

      Install the spacer and ABS rotor to the axle hub.

    2. w/o ABS:

      Install the 2 spacers to the axle hub.

    3. Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

    4. Install the new O-ring to the axle hub.

    5. Install the dust cover and axle hub to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      80 N*m  { 816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf }

  6. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT LH (for 4WD)

    1. Install the hub nut.

      Torque:
      235 N*m  { 2,396 kgf*cm, 173 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install the adjusting cap and a new cotter pin.

      Note

      If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

  7. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP (for 4WD)


    1. Install a new grease cap to the axle hub.

  8. INSTALL FRONT DISC

  9. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the disc brake caliper with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      123 N*m  { 1,254 kgf*cm, 91 ft.*lbf }
    2. A01J61TE01

      Install the brake tube bracket to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque:
      29 N*m  { 296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf }

    3. Using SST, connect the brake tube to the disc brake caliper.

      Torque:
      15 N*m  { 155 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf, for use without SST }
      14 N*m  { 143 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf, for use with SST }

      Tech Tips

      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).

  10. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS)

    1. Install the speed sensor with the bolt.

      Torque:
      8.5 N*m  { 87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf }

    2. Connect the 2 clamps.

    3. Install the speed sensor wire harness to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque:
      32 N*m  { 326 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf }

  11. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

    Torque:
    105 N*m  { 1,071 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf }

  12. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL (w/ ABS)
