AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REMOVAL


  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

  2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  3. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  4. REMOVE No. 3 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  5. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector.

    2. Detach the 3 wire clamps.

      Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

    4. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

    5. Disconnect the front pipe from the center pipe and remove the gasket.

    6. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs.

    7. Remove the front pipe from the outlet pipe and remove the gasket.

  6. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly Click here.

  7. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID


    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.

    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 205 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

  8. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the oil dipstick.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and oil filler tube.

    3. Remove the O-ring from the oil filler tube.

  9. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE

    1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the outlet tube and inlet tube.

      Remove the 3 bolts and 3 clamps.

  10. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the control cable.

    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable.

  11. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the starter assembly Click here.

  12. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

  13. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01J417

      Detach the wire harness clamp from the No. 3 frame crossmember.

    2. A01J3AUE01

      *1: Remove the 4 set bolts of the No. 1 engine mounting insulator rear.

    3. *2: Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and frame crossmember.

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR REAR

    1. Remove the 4 bolts, ground cable and engine mounting insulator.

  15. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR


    1. A01J7KT

      Remove the 2 bolts and heat insulator.

    2. A01J669E01

      Tilt the transmission downward.

      Note

      Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.

    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector, ATF temperature sensor connector and 3 speed sensor connectors.

    4. Disconnect the 4 wire harness clamps.

  16. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS

  17. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING DUST SEAL

  18. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.

    2. Hold the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench and remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.

      Remove the 3 bolts and exhaust manifold stay.

    4. A01J5BE

      Remove the 7 bolts.

    5. Separate the transmission from the engine.

  19. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

  20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and control cable bracket from the transmission.
