EXHAUST PIPE INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

    1. A01J7NV

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.

      Minimum length
      40 mm (1.57 in.)

      If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

    2. Install the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust pipe support.

    3. A01J65VE03

      Install a new gasket to the exhaust manifold.

      Tech Tips

      Using a plastic-faced hammer, uniformly strike the gasket so that the gasket and exhaust pipe are properly fit.

      Note

      • Be careful with the installation direction of the gasket.

      • Do not reuse the gasket.

      • To ensure a proper seal, do not use the front exhaust pipe to force the gasket onto the exhaust manifold.

    4. Install the front exhaust pipe with the 2 compression springs and 2 bolts. Alternately tighten the bolts in several passes.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
  2. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (w/ Secondary Air Injection System)

    1. A01J3GGE05
      Text in Illustration
      *1 Fulcrum Length

      Using SST, install the heated oxygen sensor.

      SST
      09224-00010
      Torque:
      for use without SST
      44 N*m  { 449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
      for use with SST
      40 N*m  { 408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      • Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.8 in.). When using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length that is not 300 mm (11.8 in.), calculate the torque specification for the torque wrench and SST based on the "without SST" torque specification Click here.

      • Make sure SST and the wrench are connected in a straight line.

    2. Attach the sensor wire to the clamp.

    3. Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

  3. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (w/o Secondary Air Injection System)

    1. A01J57SE01

      Using SST, install the sensor.

      SST
      09224-00010
      Torque:
      44 N*m  { 449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf, for use without SST }
      40 N*m  { 408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf, for use with SST }

      Tech Tips

      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).

    2. A01J692

      Attach the 3 wire clamps to the vehicle body.

    3. Connect the sensor connector.

  4. INSTALL AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (w/ Secondary Air Injection System)

    1. A01J57SE05
      Text in Illustration
      *1 Fulcrum Length

      Using SST, install the air fuel ratio sensor.

      SST
      09224-00010
      Torque:
      for use without SST
      44 N*m  { 449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
      for use with SST
      40 N*m  { 408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf }

    2. Attach the 3 wire harness clamps to the vehicle body.

    3. Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector.

  5. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the center exhaust pipe to the 3 pipe supports.

    2. Install a new gasket and the center exhaust pipe to the front exhaust pipe with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Alternately tighten the bolts in several passes.

      Torque:
      48 N*m  { 489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Do not reuse the gasket.

  6. INSTALL TAILPIPE ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the tailpipe to the exhaust pipe support.

    2. Install a new gasket and the tailpipe to the center exhaust pipe with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Alternately tighten the bolts in several passes.

      Torque:
      48 N*m  { 489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Do not reuse the gasket.

  7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

    1. Perform initialization Click here.

      Note

      Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  9. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS

    If gas is leaking, tighten the problem areas to stop the leak. Replace damaged parts as necessary.
