STEERING LOCK SYSTEM PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTIONS WHEN CHECKING FOR DTCS

    1. When the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, the DTCs stored in the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) are cleared. Be sure to record any output DTCs immediately.

    2. When using the GTS with the vehicle power switch off, connect the GTS to the vehicle and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the GTS and the vehicle begins. Then select the Model Code "KEY REGIST" under manual mode and enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Entry & Start(CAN). While using the GTS, periodically turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less to maintain communication between the GTS and the vehicle.

  2. PRECAUTIONS WHEN REPLACING STEERING LOCK ECU (STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY)

    1. If the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) is replaced, be sure to confirm that the steering is unlocked by turning the steering wheel to the left and right before starting the hybrid control system. If the steering is locked for any reason, open and close a door with the power switch off, and then unlock the steering lock by pressing the power switch. This prevents the hybrid control system from starting while the steering is locked.

  3. PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION

    1. If replacing any of the following parts, refer to Service Bulletin.

      1. Certification ECU (Smart key ECU assembly)

      2. ID code box (Immobiliser code ECU)

      3. Hybrid vehicle control ECU

      4. Steering lock ECU (Steering lock actuator assembly)

      5. Electrical key transmitter sub-assembly (Key)

  4. PRECAUTIONS FOR STEERING LOCK / UNLOCK FUNCTION

    1. After turning the vehicle power switch off and opening and closing any of the doors, the steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock function. Operating the vehicle power switch again automatically cancels the steering lock function.

    2. To prevent the steering lock motor from overheating, the motor operation may be suspended if the steering is locked and unlocked repeatedly in a short period of time. In this case, refrain from operating the hybrid control system. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume functioning.
