REAR BRAKE REMOVAL

Note


  • When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

  • While the auxiliary battery is connected, even if the ignition switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch is turned on. Therefore, even if only brake pads are to be removed and installed, be sure to perform the Disable Brake Control procedure and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery before beginning work.

  • Use the same procedure for the LH side and RH side.

  • The following procedure listed is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here

  2. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL

    Click here

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  4. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    Immediately wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with any painted surfaces.

  5. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

    1. Separate the parking brake cable end from the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever.

    2. Using needle-nose pliers, disengage the claws of the casing cap and separate the parking brake cable assembly.

  6. SEPARATE REAR BRAKE TUBE FLEXIBLE HOSE

    1. Remove the union bolt and gasket and separate the rear brake tube flexible hose from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-RATTLE SPRING

    1. Remove the rear disc brake anti-rattle spring from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 slide bolt caps.

      Using "TORX" socket wrench T45, remove the 2 slide bolts and the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  9. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD

    1. Remove the 2 rear disc brake pads from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

  10. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT

    1. Remove the 2 rear disc brake bush dust boots from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  11. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and the rear disc brake cylinder mounting from the axle beam.

  12. REMOVE REAR DISC

    1. Place matchmarks on the rear disc and the rear axle hub and remove the rear disc.
