FRONT BRAKE REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note


  • When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

  • While the auxiliary battery is connected, even if the ignition switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch is turned on. Therefore, even if only brake pads are to be removed and installed, be sure to perform the Disable Brake Control procedure and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery before beginning work.

  • Use the same procedure for the LH side and RH side.

  • The following procedure listed is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here

  2. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL

    Click here

  3. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  4. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    Immediately wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with any painted surfaces.

  5. SEPARATE FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE

      Remove the union bolt and gasket to separate the front flexible hose from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.

  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      Hold the front disc brake cylinder slide pin with a wrench, remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder assembly.

  7. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING BOLT (w/ Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the 2 slide pin caps.

    2. A004FS3

      Using 7 mm hexagon socket wrench, loosen the 2 slide pins.

    3. A004GEM

      Remove the 2 bolts, to remove the front disc brake cylinder assembly and front disc brake mounting from the steering knuckle.

  8. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD KIT (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the front disc brake pad kit from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  9. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE ANTI-RATTLESPRING (w/ Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the front disc brake anti-rattle spring from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.

  10. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD KIT (w/ Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the disc brake pad kit from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  11. REMOVE FRONT ANTI SQUEAL SHIM KIT (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      *2 No. 1 Anti Squeal Shim
      *3 No. 2 Anti Squeal Shim
      *4 Front Disc Brake Pad Kit

      Remove the No. 1 anti squeal shim and No. 2 anti squeal shim from each front disc brake pad kit.

    2. Remove the pad wear indicator plate from each front disc brake pad kit.

  12. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the 4 front disc brake pad support plates from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

      Note

      Each front disc brake pad support plate has a different shape. Be sure to put an identification mark on each front disc brake pad support plate so that they can be installed in their original position.

  13. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the front disc brake cylinder slide pin and front No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

      *a Protective Tape

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, remove the front disc brake cylinder slide bush from the front No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the front No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

  14. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY (w/ Anti-rattle Spring)


    1. Using 7 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the 2 slide pins and front disc brake cylinder assembly from the disc brake cylinder mounting.

  15. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the 2 front disc brake bush dust boots from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  16. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT (w/ Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the 2 front disc brake bush dust boots from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.

  17. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING (w/o Anti-rattle Spring)

      Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder mounting from the steering knuckle.

  18. REMOVE FRONT DISC

      Place matchmarks on the front disc and front axle hub and remove the front disc.
