PROCEDURE
INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
While moving the shift lever from N to each position, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and that the shift position indicator comes on properly according to the shift lever position.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (READY) and check the following:
When the shift lever is moved to D, the vehicle moves forward.
When the shift lever is moved to R, the vehicle moves in reverse.
Note
The vehicle should not move when the shift position indicator is off.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect and adjust the shift lever position sensor position and the shift lever position.
INSPECT SHIFT LOCK OPERATION
Move the shift lever to P.
Turn the ignition switch off.
Check that the shift lever cannot be moved from P to any other position.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), depress the brake pedal, and check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the shift lock control ECU sub-assembly and the shift lock control unit assembly.
INSPECT SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION
Move the shift lever to P.
Turn the ignition switch off.
When moving the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed, check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit assembly.
INSPECT KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION (w/o Power Switch)
Turn the ignition switch to ON (READY).
Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to any position other than P.
Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK.
Move the shift lever to P, turn the ignition key to LOCK, and check that the ignition key can be removed.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the shift lock control ECU sub-assembly and the shift lock control unit assembly.
