DESCRIPTION

In the DPF system, after the main injection and at the end of expansion stroke, the injectors spray a small amount of fuel to control PM regeneration; this is called "post injection".

Because the temperature and pressure of the sprayed fuel are low, it arrives at the catalytic converter unburned. The fuel is then oxidized by the catalytic action and the temperature of the DPF catalyst bed increases to burn the accumulated soot.

However, some of the unburned fuel goes down to the oil pan through clearances in the cylinder walls. Thus, this fuel is mixed into the engine oil, causing the engine oil volume to increase.

DTC P250D is available only for the vehicles with DPF system.

All of the following conditions are met:


  • Engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) to 86°C (187°F)

  • Drive vehicle at a speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) or more

  • Engine speed between 1400 and 2600 rpm

Open in engine oil level sensor circuit for 1 seconds

(1 trip detection logic)


  • Open in engine oil level sensor circuit

  • Engine oil level sensor

  • ECM

Tech Tips

If the vehicle is driven at least 400 km (249 miles) of cumulative distance after the DTC P250D is stored, the DTC P252F will be detected.

Tech Tips


  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the intelligent tester. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initializations/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the tester display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR


    1. Remove the engine oil level sensor.

      Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR - ECM, BODY GROUND)

      Disconnect the engine oil level sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B41-3 (OIL) - A19-59 (OILH) Always Below 1 Ω
      B41-2 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      B41-3 (OIL) or A19-59 (OILH) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the engine oil level sensor connector.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  6. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    4. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches at 75 to 86°C (167 to 187°F).

    5. Drive the vehicle for 2 minutes or more at steady vehicle speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) or more (at an engine speed between 1400 and 2600 rpm or more).

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    7. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
