DESCRIPTION

When one of following conditions is met:


  • Center airbag sensor assembly detects open circuit signal in driver side squib circuit for 2 seconds

  • Spiral cable malfunction

  • Center airbag sensor assembly malfunction


  • Instrument panel wire

  • Spiral cable

  • Steering pad (Driver side squib)

  • Center airbag sensor assembly

B1802/51

When one of following conditions is met:


  • Center airbag sensor assembly detects short circuit to ground signal in driver side squib circuit for 0.5 seconds

  • Driver side squib malfunction

  • Spiral cable malfunction

  • Center airbag sensor assembly malfunction


  • Instrument panel wire

  • Spiral cable

  • Steering pad (Driver side squib)

  • Center airbag sensor assembly

B1803/51

When one of following conditions is met:


  • Center airbag sensor assembly detects short circuit to B+ signal in driver side squib circuit for 0.5 seconds

  • Driver side squib malfunction

  • Spiral cable malfunction

  • Center airbag sensor assembly malfunction


  • Instrument panel wire

  • Spiral cable

  • Steering pad (Driver side squib)

  • Center airbag sensor assembly

  • Perform the simulation method by selecting Check Mode (signal check) with the intelligent tester Click here.

  • After selecting Check Mode (signal check), perform the simulation method by wiggling each connector of the airbag system or driving the vehicle on a city street or rough road Click here.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK CONNECTOR


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Disconnect the connector from the steering pad.

    4. Check the spiral cable connector and terminals (on the steering pad side) and check that the connector is properly connected to the steering pad.

  2. INSPECT STEERING PAD (DRIVER SIDE SQUIB)

      Disconnect the connector from the steering pad.

    2. Connect the white wire side of SST (resistance 2.1 Ω) to connector E (orange connector).

      CAUTION:

      Never connect a tester to the steering pad (driver side squib) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.

      Note


      • Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

      • Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Click here.

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    8. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock 5 times or more.

    9. Check the DTCs Click here.

      OK
      DTC B1800, B1801, B1802, B1803 or 51 is not output.

      Tech Tips

      DTCs other than B1800, B1801, B1802, B1803 and 51 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Disconnect the SST from connector E.

    4. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the spiral cable.

    5. Check the instrument panel wire connector and terminals (on the spiral cable side) and check that the connector is properly connected to the spiral cable.

  4. CHECK SPIRAL CABLE (DRIVER SIDE SQUIB - INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE)

      Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the spiral cable.

    2. Check for short to B+ in the circuit.


      1. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        1 (D-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    3. Check for open in the circuit.


      1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

      3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        1 (D-) - 2 (D+) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Check for short to ground in the circuit.


      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        2 (D+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
    5. Check for short in the circuit.


      1. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector D Click here.

      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        1 (D-) - 2 (D+) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      3. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector D to the original condition.

    2. Check the instrument panel wire connector and terminals (on the center airbag sensor assembly side) and check that the connector is properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly.

      Connect the connectors to the steering pad, spiral cable and the center airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
