BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT

Tech Tips

If any work is performed on the brake system or if air in the brake lines is suspected, bleed the brake system.

Note

  • Move the shift lever to P and apply the parking brake before bleeding the brakes.

  • Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

  • If brake fluid leaks onto any painted surface, immediately wash it off.

  1. REMOVE CENTER COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER (for LHD)

    1. A0118JU

      Disengage the 2 clips and separate the hood to cowl top seal.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws and 6 guides and remove the center cowl top ventilator louver.

  2. REMOVE CENTER COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER (for RHD)

    1. A0118ZN

      Disengage the clip and separate the hood to cowl top seal.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws and 5 guides and remove the center cowl top ventilator louver.

  3. FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID

      *1 MAX Line
      *2 MIN Line

      Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.

      Brake Fluid
      SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3

      Note

      Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

  4. REPLACE BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    • Bleed the brake line of the wheel farthest from the master cylinder first.

    • Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

    1. A011AFD

      Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

    2. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed (Procedure 1).

    3. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal (Procedure 2).

    4. Repeat steps (Procedure 1) and (Procedure 2) until the new brake fluid comes out.

    5. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

      Torque:
      Front bleeder plug
      8.3 N*m  { 85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf }
      Rear bleeder plug (for Disc Brake)
      11 N*m  { 112 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }
      Rear bleeder plug (for Drum Brake)
      8.5 N*m  { 87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf }
    6. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.

  5. INSPECT FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAK

  6. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL

    1. A0118BBE01

      Check the brake fluid level.

      If brake fluid level is lower than the MIN line, check for leaks and inspect the disc brake pads. If necessary, refill the reservoir with brake fluid to the MAX line after repair or replacement.

  7. INSTALL CENTER COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER (for LHD)

    1. A0118JU

      Engage the 2 claws and 6 guides to install the cowl top ventilator louver.

    2. Engage the 2 clips to install the hood to cowl top seal.

  8. INSTALL CENTER COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER (for RHD)

    1. A0118ZN

      Engage the 2 claws and 5 guides to install the cowl top ventilator louver.

    2. Engage the clip to install the hood to cowl top seal.
