FRONT AXLE HUB REMOVAL

Tech Tips

Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT
1. Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle hub nut.

  Note
  
  Insert SST into the groove with the flat surface facing up.
  
  Do not damage the tip of SST using grinders.
  
  Completely unstake the staked part before removing the axle hub nut.
  
  Do not damage the threads of the drive shaft.
2. Using a 30 mm deep socket wrench, remove the axle hub nut.
SEPARATE FRONT SPEED SENSOR
1. Remove the bolt and separate the flexible hose and front speed sensor.
2. Remove the bolt and separate the front speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the disc brake caliper from the steering knuckle.
REMOVE FRONT DISC

  Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub, and remove the front disc.
SEPARATE FRONT LOWER SUSPENSION ARM
1. Remove the clip and castle nut.
2. Install SST (spacer B) to the threaded section of the lower ball joint.

3. Using SST, separate the front lower suspension arm from the front axle assembly.

  Note
  
  Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.
  
  Install SST so that A and B are parallel.
  
  Be sure to place the wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
  
  Do not damage the lower ball joint dust cover.
  
  Do not damage the drive shaft outboard joint boots.
  
  Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY
1. Using a plastic hammer, tap the end of the drive shaft and disengage the fitting between the drive shaft and front axle.
  
  Tech Tips
  
  If it is difficult to disengage the fitting, tap the end of the drive shaft with a brass bar and hammer.
2. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts and remove the front axle assembly.
REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING
1. Using snap ring pliers, remove the hole snap ring.
REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 1KR-FE)
1. Fix the steering knuckle in a vise between aluminum plates.

  Do not overtighten the vise.
2. Using SST, remove the front axle hub sub-assembly.

3. Using SST, remove the hub bearing inner race from the axle hub sub-assembly.

  Note
  
  Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-04020) before use.
REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 1ND-TV, 1NR-FE)
1. Fix the steering knuckle in a vise between aluminum plates.
  
  Note
  
  Do not overtighten the vise.
2. Using SST, remove the front axle hub sub-assembly.

3. Using SST, remove the hub bearing inner race from the axle hub sub-assembly.

  Note
  
  Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-04020) before use.
REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING (for 1KR-FE)
1. Install the removed hub bearing inner race onto the outer side of the hub bearing.
2. Using SST and a press, remove the hub bearing from the steering knuckle.

REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING (for 1ND-TV, 1NR-FE)
1. Install the removed hub bearing inner race onto the outer side of the hub bearing.
2. Using SST and a press, remove the hub bearing from the steering knuckle.
