REMOVE MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
Remove the nut, and disconnect the lead wire from the magnet starter switch assembly.
Remove the 2 nuts that hold the magnet starter switch assembly from the starter housing.

Remove the plunger hook from the pinion drive lever while lifting the front of the magnet starter switch, and then remove the magnet starter switch.
REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY
Remove the 2 through bolts, and then remove the yoke and pinion drive lever.
REMOVE STARTER COMMUTATOR END FRAME ASSEMBLY

Remove the starter commutator end frame.
Note
Remove the starter commutator end frame while pushing the lead wire.
REMOVE STARTER PLATE
Clamp the armature shaft in a vise.
Note
Do not clamp the vise too tightly.
Remove the starter plate.
REMOVE STARTER BRUSH SPRING
Remove the 4 starter brush springs and the starter brush holder.
Note
Do not allow the brush springs to fly off.
REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY
Remove the starter armature from the starter yoke.
REMOVE STARTER CLUTCH SUB-ASSEMBLY
Clamp the armature in a vise.
Note
Do not clamp the vise too tightly.
Remove the pinion stop nut (outer).
Using a screwdriver, move the pinion stop nut (inner) to the clutch side.
Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.
Remove the pinion stop nut (inner) and clutch from the armature.
REMOVE BEARING

Using a tap wrench, remove the bearing from the starter commutator end frame.
REMOVE STARTER HOUSING BEARING
Using SST and a press, remove the bearing from the drive housing.
REMOVE DUST STARTER PROTECTOR
Remove the dust protector from the starter commutator end frame.
