CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Warm up and stop the engine, wait for 5 minutes, and check that the oil level is between the Low and Full marks on the dipstick.
Tech Tips
If the oil level is low, check for leaks and add oil to the Full mark.
Note
Do not add oil above the Full mark.
Warm up the engine until the coolant temperature is 75°C to 86°C (167°F to 187°F), and confirm that the oil maintenance indicator illuminates when driving the vehicle at 15 km/h (9 mph) or more with an engine speed of 1400 to 2600 rpm.
Tech Tips
If the oil maintenance warning indicator illuminates during confirmation driving after an oil change, check for an open or close in the engine oil level sensor Click here. If there is a malfunction, replace the engine oil level sensor Click here.
If the oil maintenance warning indicator illuminates, the engine oil level is correct, and the sensor is functioning normally, then check the wire harness and connectors between the engine oil level sensor and engine control ECM Click here.
INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK
Start the engine. Check for engine oil leaks from the connected parts of the oil filter cap and oil filter drain plug.
OIL MAINTENANCE INFORMATION MODE RESET OPERATION
RESET UPPER OIL LEVEL (w/ DPF)
Tech Tips
Vehicles without the DPF use the upper oil level switch, but they do not have the "oil level high side malfunction" function. Therefore reset is not necessary.
Warm up the engine until the coolant temperature is 75°C to 86°C (167°F to 187°F).
Drive the vehicle at 15 km/h (9 mph) or more with an engine speed of 1400 to 2600 rpm for 1 minute or more.
Tech Tips
If the upper level switch "off" signal continues for 10 seconds or more, the "oil level high side malfunction" monitor will be reset.
