DESCRIPTION

The windshield wiper relay assembly controls the windshield wiper motor assembly.

Note

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the windshield wiper motor assembly Click here.

      Component without harness connected

      (Windshield Wiper Motor Assembly)

      Check LO operation (for LHD).


      1. Connect a battery positive (+) lead to terminal 1 (+1) and a negative (-) lead to terminal 5 (E), and check that the motor operates at low speed (LO).

        OK
        Motor operates at low speed (LO).
    3. Check HI operation.


      1. Connect a battery positive (+) lead to terminal 4 (+2) and a negative (-) lead to terminal 5 (E), and check that the motor operates at high speed (HI).

        OK
        Motor operates at high speed (HI).

      1. Disconnect the A20 windshield wiper motor connector.

      2. Measure the voltage and resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        A20-2 (B) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
        Standard Resistance

        A20-5 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      1. Disconnect the D41 windshield wiper relay assembly connector.

      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance
        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        A20-1 (+1) - D41-2 (+1) Always Below 1 Ω
        A20-1 (+1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A20-4 (+2) - D41-3 (+2) Always Below 1 Ω
        A20-4 (+2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
        A20-3 (+S) - D41-10 (+SM) Always Below 1 Ω
        A20-3 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
