LIGHTING SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

Note

  • After the headlight swivel ECU is replaced, the new headlight swivel ECU does not operate if the vehicle specifications are not registered.

  • Once vehicle specifications are registered into a headlight swivel ECU, they cannot be overwritten (the vehicle specifications cannot be registered into an ECU that already has previously registered vehicle specifications).

  • Be sure to register the vehicle specifications before initializing the rear height control sensor.

  • Be sure to register the vehicle specifications with the main body ECU and ECM connected to the CAN communication system.

  • Initialize the headlight swivel ECU (store the zero point of the rear height control sensor in the headlight swivel ECU) after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of the suspension or after performing removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor.

  • When the headlight swivel ECU is replaced, initialization is also necessary.

  • Adjust the headlight aim after initializing the headlight swivel ECU.

  • When a malfunction is detected in the AFS, rear height control sensor initialization is impossible. Perform troubleshooting for the AFS before initializing the rear height control sensor.

  1. CONFIRM METHOD OF REGISTRATION FOR VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS

    1. Confirm the method of registration for the vehicle specifications.

  2. REGISTER VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS (USING INTELLIGENT TESTER)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (when the vehicle specifications are unconfirmed, the AFS OFF indicator light blinks at a frequency of 0.5 Hz).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body / Sub System / Utility / ECU Information Sync / Next / Exit.

    5. Check that the AFS OFF indicator light stops blinking at a frequency of 0.5 Hz and blinks 6 times at a frequency of 2 Hz to confirm that the registration is complete.

  3. REGISTER VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS (NOT USING INTELLIGENT TESTER)

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (when the vehicle specifications are unconfirmed, the AFS OFF indicator light blinks at a frequency of 0.5 Hz).

    2. Turn the low beam headlights on and off 8 times within 20 seconds.

    3. Check that the AFS OFF indicator light stops blinking at a frequency of 0.5 Hz and blinks 6 times at a frequency of 2 Hz to confirm that the registration is complete.

  4. PREPARE VEHICLE FOR INITIALIZATION

    1. Unload the trunk and vehicle, ensuring that the spare tire, tools and jack are in their original positions.

    2. Check that there are no passengers in the vehicle.

    3. Turn off the headlights.

    4. Stop the vehicle on a level surface and do not change the vehicle height.

  5. CHECK INDICATOR LIGHT

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check the AFS OFF indicator light.

The headlight swivel ECU is replaced with a new one and the vehicle specifications are registered. Indicator light blinks 6 times at 2 Hz.
Removal and reinstallation of the headlight swivel ECU, replacement of the rear height control sensor, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor, replacement of the suspension, etc. is performed. Indicator light comes on for approximately 3 seconds, and then goes off (bulb check function).

      Tech Tips

If the indicator light does not come on when turning the ignition switch to ON, perform troubleshooting according to Problem Symptoms Table Click here.

Turn the low beam headlights on and off using the light control switch within 20 seconds after connecting the terminals.

      Tech Tips

The number of times the low beam headlights need to be turned on and off is determined by the present fuel level as shown below.

Fuel Level Number of Times to Turn Low Beam Headlights on and off
Fuel level is within A range. 5
Fuel level is within B range. 4
Fuel level is within C range. 3
Fuel level is within D range. 2
      Fuel level at E. 1

      Note

      • Turn the low beam headlights on and off at approximately 1-second intervals.

      • Be sure to operate the light control switch from outside the vehicle.

    3. Check the indicator light.

Removal and reinstallation of the headlight swivel ECU, replacement of the rear height control sensor, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor, replacement of the suspension, etc. is performed. Off → Repeats cycles of N* blinks at 2 Hz

      Tech Tips

      • *: The number of times that AFS OFF indicator blinks is determined by the number of times the low beam headlights are turned on and off.

      • If initialization cannot be finished normally, disconnect SST from the DLC3 and turn the ignition switch off. Then, perform troubleshooting according to the problem symptoms table and restart the procedure from the beginning.
