SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)

  2. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check Click here.

    2. When the pillar of the vehicle or the surrounding area is damaged, check if there is any damage to the side airbag sensor. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the side airbag sensor with a new one:


      • Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.

      • Cracks or other damage to the connector.

      • Peeling of the label or damage to the serial number.

      CAUTION:

      For removal and installation procedures of the side airbag sensor, be sure to follow the correct procedure.

  3. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)


    1. Replace the side airbag sensor.

      CAUTION:


      • For removal and installation procedures of the side airbag sensor, be sure to follow the correct procedure.

      • If the airbags have deployed, replace the side airbag sensor on the side on which the collision occurred. Replace both if necessary.
