ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0299

DTC Code DTC Name
P0299 Turbocharger / Supercharger Underboost

DESCRIPTION

P0299
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
After warming up the engine, the vehicle is driven at a constant vehicle speed at an engine speed of 2400 rpm or more for 2 minutes

When any condition below is met (2 trip detection logic):

  • The pressure "MAP" is 70 kPa (525 mmHg, 20.7 in.Hg) below the Target Boost Pressure for 80 seconds at an engine speed of around 2400 rpm.

  • The pressure is 50 kPa (375 mmHg, 14.8 in.Hg) below the Target Boost Pressure for 80 seconds at an engine speed of around 2800 rpm.

  • The pressure is 30 kPa (225 mmHg, 8.9 in.Hg) below the Target Boost Pressure for 80 seconds at an engine speed of 3600 to 4000 rpm.

  • Vacuum regulating valve assembly (for turbocharger control)

  • Open or short in vacuum regulating valve assembly (for turbocharger control) circuit

  • Turbocharger sub-assembly

  • Electric EGR control valve assembly

  • Disconnected pipe between turbo and intake manifold

  • Disconnected manifold absolute pressure sensor hose

  • Manifold absolute pressure sensor

  • Injection system (reduction in fuel injection volume)

  • EGR does not close

  • Throttle valve stuck closed

  • Vacuum hose

  • Fuel filter element sub-assembly clog

  • ECM

Tech Tips

If DTC P0299 is stored, the following symptoms may appear.

  • When the nozzle vane of the turbocharger is stuck open:

    • Lack of power

    • Vehicle surge or hesitation under light or medium load

  • After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  • Comparison of the data list items manifold absolute pressure and target booster pressure during acceleration under medium to high engine speeds can be used to determine the state of the problem.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0299)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    4. Read the DTCs.

  2. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA (FUEL PRESS AND TARGET COMMON RAIL PRESSURE)

    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    2. Record the stored DTCs and freeze frame data.
