AIR CONDITIONING UNIT REMOVAL

Tech Tips

If the air conditioning radiator damper servo sub-assembly is to be removed and installed or replaced, make sure to set the temperature setting to MAX COLD before turning the engine switch off and disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    Make sure to perform initialization after replacing the air conditioning radiator damper servo sub-assembly. If initialization is not performed, the air conditioning unit assembly will not perform properly as the air conditioning amplifier assembly will not be able to recognize the position of the air conditioning radiator damper sub-assembly.

  2. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

  3. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY

  4. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE A

      Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the outlet heater water hose A.

      Note


      • Do not apply excessive force to the outlet heater water hose A.

      • Prepare a drain pan or cloth in case the coolant leaks.

  5. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE A

      Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the inlet heater water hose A.

      Note


      • Do not apply excessive force to the inlet heater water hose A.

      • Prepare a drain pan or cloth in case the coolant leaks.

  6. DISCONNECT SUCTION PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the bolt and rotate the hook connector as shown in the illustration.

      Disconnect the suction pipe sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the O-ring from the suction pipe sub-assembly.

      Note

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent entry of moisture and foreign matter.

  7. DISCONNECT COOLER REFRIGERANT LIQUID PIPE A

      Disconnect the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe A.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe A.

      Note

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent entry of moisture and foreign matter.

      Remove the screw and No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.

  21. REMOVE COOLER (ROOM TEMP. SENSOR) THERMISTOR

      Disconnect the connector and air hose to remove the cooler (room temp. sensor) thermistor.

  22. REMOVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL PAD

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, disengage the 3 claws to remove the accelerator pedal pad.

  23. REMOVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts.

    2. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly from the rod of the accelerator pedal sensor assembly.

  24. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 AIR DUCT

      Disengage the 2 claws.

    2. Using a clip remover, remove the clip.

    3. Disengage the 3 guides and clamp.

    4. Disengage each fastener and turn back the front floor carpet assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Disengage the 4 claws to remove the rear No. 2 air duct.

  25. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR SILENCER PAD LH

      Remove the front floor silencer pad LH.

  26. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 AIR DUCT

      Disengage the 2 clamps to disconnect the wire harness.

    2. Remove the rear No. 1 air duct.

  27. REMOVE REAR NO. 4 AIR DUCT

      Disengage the 2 claws.

    2. Disengage the 3 guides and clamp.

    3. Disengage the fastener and turn back the front floor carpet assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Disengage the 4 claws to remove the rear No. 4 air duct.

  28. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR SILENCER PAD RH

      Remove the front floor silencer pad RH.

  29. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 AIR DUCT

      Disengage the 2 clamps to disconnect the wire harness.

    2. Remove the rear No. 3 air duct.

  30. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT

      Disengage the clamp.

    2. Remove the 2 clips and No. 1 console box duct.

  31. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL TO FLOOR BRACE

      Remove the 3 bolts.

    2. Disengage the 2 guides to remove the No. 2 instrument panel to floor brace.

  32. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP

      *2 Instrument Panel Safety Pad Cap (B)

      Put protective tape around the 6 instrument panel safety pad caps.

    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 instrument panel safety pad caps (A) and 2 instrument panel safety pad caps (B).

  33. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CONDITIONING UNIT

    Note


    • Be sure to support the air conditioning unit assembly when removing it because failure to do so may cause the bracket of the air conditioning unit assembly to break.

    • When disassembling the air conditioning unit assembly, eliminate static electricity by touching the vehicle body to prevent the components from being damaged.


    1. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the 3 earth wires.

    2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the bracket.

    3. Disconnect each connector.

    4. Disengage each clamp.

      Remove the 3 hole plugs.

      Remove the 3 bolts.

    7. Using SST, remove the nut and 8 bolts as shown in the illustration.

    8. Disengage the 3 guides and remove the instrument panel reinforcement assembly with air conditioning unit as shown in the illustration.

  34. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the 2 screws, 3 bolts and air conditioning unit assembly from the instrument panel reinforcement assembly.
