DESCRIPTION

This DTC is stored when the pedestrian protection sensors detect a pressure higher than the specified value. When this DTC is stored, the airbag ECU assembly sends a signal via CAN communication to display "POP UP HOOD Failure." on the multi-information display to inform the driver of the malfunction.

B16A6 is output when external forces deform the pedestrian detection chamber, and the pedestrian protection sensor detects pressure equal to or greater than a certain amount and determines that operation of the pop up hood system may be affected.

PROCEDURE


  1. REPLACE FRONT BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER

    Tech Tips

    If B16A6 is output, it is necessary to replace the front bumper energy absorber. Even if no cracks or other damage can be seen on the front bumper energy absorber, internal components may have been damaged, adversely affecting the operation of the pop up hood system.


    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Replace the front bumper energy absorber with a new one.

  2. PERFORM POP UP HOOD SENSOR INSPECTION


    1. Remove the pedestrian detection chamber.

    2. Inspect the pedestrian detection chamber.

  3. CHECK DTC


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    3. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

    4. Turn the engine switch off.

    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    6. Check for DTCs.

  5. CLEAR DTC


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
