DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the center airbag sensor and the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the front passenger airbag, front passenger side knee airbag, front seat airbag RH and front seat outer belt RH.

DTC B1660/43 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

  • The center airbag sensor receives an open circuit signal, a short circuit to ground signal or a short circuit to B+ signal in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit for 2 seconds.

  • A passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator malfunction.

  • A center airbag sensor malfunction.


  • Instrument panel wire

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note


  • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

  • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS


    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the multi-display.

      OK
      The connectors are properly connected.

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the multi-display.

    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and multi-display side) are not damaged.

      OK
      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

  4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

    1. Connect the connector to the multi-display.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK
      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

  5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR

    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    4. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    7. Check for DTCs Click here.

      OK
      DTC B1660 is not output.

  6. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT

    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Disconnect the connector from the center airbag sensor and multi-display.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      F78-20 (ARON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      F78-8 (AIR) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    6. Turn the engine switch off.

    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    8. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    10. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

  7. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE)

    1. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    4. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    3. Connect the connector to the multi-display or clock.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.

    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    6. Check the indicator according to the table below.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    6. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    7. Turn the engine switch off.

    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    9. Check for DTCs Click here.

      OK
      DTC B1660 is not output.
