ENGINE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL


  1. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH


    1. Remove the 7 clips and engine room side cover LH.

    1. Remove the 7 clips and engine room side cover RH.

  3. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL

      Remove the 3 clips and upper radiator support seal.

  4. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Raise the front of the V-bank cover to detach the 3 pins. Then remove the 2 V-bank cover hooks from the bracket, and remove the V-bank cover.

  5. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE


    1. Discharge the fuel system pressure Click here.

  6. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note


    • w/ Navigation System:

      After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable from the cable is reconnected Click here.

  7. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL FRONT LH

      Using a clip remover, remove the 4 clips and fender apron seal.

  8. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL REAR LH

      Remove the 3 bolts and 2 screws.

    2. Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly LH.

  13. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    3. Detach the 4 clips and partially remove the upper radiator seal.

      Disconnect the connector.

      Using a clip remover, detach the 3 clips and remove the fender main seal.

    1. Remove the nut, wiper arm and blade.

  23. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL

      Using a clip remover, detach the 12 clips and 4 clamps, and remove the hood to cowl top seal.

  24. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the washer hose.

    2. A01EOFE

      Remove the 2 clips.

    3. Detach the 17 claws and remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.

  25. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 hood support bolts and disconnect the hood supports.

      CAUTION:

      Remove the hood support assembly while supporting the hood by hand.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and hood.

  26. DRAIN ENGINE OIL


    1. Remove the oil filler cap.

    2. A01EPCF

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 engine under cover seal.

    3. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket, and drain the engine oil into a container.

    4. Install a new gasket and the oil pan drain plug.

      Torque:
      40 N*m  { 408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf }
  27. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

    CAUTION:

    Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug.

      Tech Tips

      Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

    2. Remove the radiator cap. Then drain the coolant from the radiator.

    3. Loosen the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Then drain the coolant from the engine.

    4. Tighten the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs.

      Torque:
      13 N*m  { 130 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf }
    5. Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.

  28. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY


    1. A01EPIO

      Disconnect the vacuum hose and No. 2 ventilation hose.

    2. Loosen the 2 hose clamps.

    3. Remove the air cleaner hose.

  29. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner.

  30. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE

  31. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE

  32. REMOVE FAN SHROUD


    1. A01ESC5

      Loosen the 4 nuts holding the fluid coupling fan.

    2. Remove the fan and generator V belt Click here.

    3. A01EOA5E01

      Disconnect the reservoir hose from the upper radiator tank.

    4. w/ Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler:

      Detach the claw to open the flexible hose clamp.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the oil cooler tube from the fan shroud.

    6. Remove the 2 bolts holding the fan shroud.

    7. Remove the 4 nuts of the fluid coupling fan, and then remove the shroud together with the coupling fan.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the radiator core.

    8. Remove the fan pulley.

  33. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses.

      Remove the 4 bolts and radiator.

  34. REMOVE WATER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  35. DISCONNECT FUEL MAIN AND RETURN HOSE

      Remove the fuel pipe clamp.

    2. Disconnect the fuel main and return hoses Click here.

  36. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND HOSE

      Disconnect the purge line hose.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

        for LHD:

        Disconnect the clamp and ECM connector.

        Disconnect the 2 clamps and ECM connector.

    3. Disconnect the 4 connectors.


      1. A01EP43

        for LHD:

        Disconnect the 4 connectors and clamp from the connector holder block.

      2. A01EOZ3

        for RHD:

        Disconnect the 4 connectors and 2 clips from the connector holder block.

    4. A01EMXJ

      w/ Secondary Air Injection System:

      Disconnect the 2 air pump connectors and 3 clamps.

    5. w/ Secondary Air Injection System:

      Remove the nut and connector bracket.

    6. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

    7. w/ Secondary Air Injection System:

      Disconnect the 2 air injection system hoses.

      Remove the nut and disconnect the wire from the positive (+) battery cable.

    9. Disconnect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal.

    10. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire from the body.

    11. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire from the bracket.

    12. w/ Secondary Air Injection System:

      Disconnect the 4 air injection control driver connectors.

    13. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire and 2 clips from the engine room junction block.

    14. Disconnect the 2 connectors and 2 clips from the engine room junction block.

      Disconnect the 2 connectors and clamps.

  37. DISCONNECT COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY


    1. A01ENT2

      Remove the 3 bolts, nut and stud bolt, and disconnect the cooler compressor.

      Tech Tips

      It is not necessary to completely remove the compressor. With the hoses connected to the compressor, hang the compressor on the vehicle body with a rope.

  38. DISCONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the 2 clamps and power steering oil pressure switch connector.

    2. A01ENCK

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the vane pump.

  39. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY


  40. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE

      Remove the dipstick.

    2. Remove the bolt and dipstick guide.

    3. Remove the O-ring from the dipstick guide.

  41. REMOVE TAILPIPE ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the bolt, clamp and gasket.

    2. Remove the tailpipe from the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

    3. Remove the bolt and clamp, and then disconnect the tailpipe from the center exhaust pipe.

  42. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the 4 bolts.

    2. Remove the center exhaust pipe from the 3 exhaust pipe supports.

    3. Remove the 2 gaskets from the front exhaust pipe and front No. 2 exhaust pipe.

  43. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY


    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

    2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness clamp bracket of the oxygen sensor from the transmission.

    3. Remove the 2 nuts, front No. 2 exhaust pipe and gasket from the exhaust manifold LH.

  44. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY


    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

    2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness clamp bracket of the oxygen sensor from the transmission.

    3. Remove the 2 nuts, front exhaust pipe and gasket from the exhaust manifold RH.

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the hose. Then remove the water pipe and hose.

  61. REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/o Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler)

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the hose. Then remove the water by-pass pipe.

  62. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY

      Install 2 engine hangers with 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

      Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.

      Note

      When hanging the engine, make sure to hang the engine with the sling device's hanging angle at 50° or less. If not, the engine or engine hangers may be damaged.

    3. A01ENM9E01

      Remove the 4 engine mounting insulator bolts.

    4. Lift the engine out from the vehicle slowly and carefully.

      Note


      • Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring, hoses and cables.

      • With the exception of installing the engine assembly to an engine stand or removing the engine assembly from an engine stand, do not perform any work on the engine while it is suspended, as doing so is dangerous.

      • Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or engine hangers may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.

  63. INSTALL ENGINE ON ENGINE STAND


    1. Install the engine onto an engine stand with bolts.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 engine hangers.
