REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT


  1. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. Stop the vehicle on a level place.

      Front Differential:


      1. Remove the engine under cover Click here.

      2. Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the filler plug and gasket.

      3. Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.

      4. Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the drain plug.

        Torque:
        39 N*m  { 400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }
    3. Rear Differential:


      1. Remove the filler plug and gasket.

      2. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.

      3. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

        Torque:
        49 N*m  { 500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf }
  2. DISCONNECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY


    1. A01EQRZE01

      Place matchmarks on the rear propeller shaft and companion flange.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 washers and 4 bolts, and disconnect the propeller shaft from the differential side.

    3. Support the propeller shaft securely.

  3. REMOVE DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE REAR NUT

      Using SST and a hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.

      Using SST to hold the companion flange, remove the nut.

  4. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE REAR SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Using SST, remove the companion flange.

  5. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL


    1. A01EPOME02

      Using SST, remove the oil seal.

  6. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER

  7. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING


    1. A01EO7IE02

      Using SST, remove the front bearing (inner race) from the drive pinion.

      Using SST, remove the front bearing (outer race) from the drive pinion.

  8. REPLACE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER


    1. A01EQW1

      Replace the bearing spacer with a new one.

  9. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING


    1. A01ESEIE02

      Using SST and a hammer, tap in the bearing (outer race).

    2. Install the bearing (inner race).

  10. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER

  11. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL


    1. A01EPLZE01

      Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal.

      Standard oil seal depth
      0.05 to 0.95 mm (0.00197 to 0.0374 in.)
    2. Coat the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.

  12. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE REAR SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01EQMSE02

      Using SST, install the companion flange on the drive pinion.

  13. ADJUST DRIVE PINION PRELOAD


    1. Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil.

      Using SST to hold the companion flange, install the nut by tightening it until the standard preload is reached.

      Torque:
      441 N*m  { 4497 kgf*cm, 325 ft.*lbf, or less }
    3. A01EOL8

      Using a torque wrench, measure the preload.

      Standard Preload (at Starting)
      Bearing Specified Condition
      New 1.0 to 1.7 N*m (11 to 17 kgf*cm, 10 to 14 in.*lbf)
      Reused 0.9 to 1.4 N*m (9 to 13 kgf*cm, 8 to 12 in.*lbf)

      If the preload is not within the specification, adjust the preload.

  14. STAKE DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE REAR NUT


    1. A01ESD0

      Using a chisel and hammer, stake the nut.

  15. CONNECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

      Align the matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and differential flange.

    2. Connect the propeller shaft with the 4 bolts, 4 washers and 4 nuts.

      Torque:
      88 N*m  { 900 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf }
  16. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. A01ERKXE27

      Add differential oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the differential filler plug hole.

      Note


      • Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.

      • After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.

    2. Front Differential:


      1. Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the filler plug.

        Torque:
        39 N*m  { 400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }
      2. Install the engine under cover Click here.

    3. Rear Differential:


      1. Install a new gasket and the filler plug.

        Torque:
        49 N*m  { 500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf }
