SMART ENTRY AND START SYSTEM (for Start Function) Engine does not Start

DESCRIPTION

  1. ENGINE START SYSTEM FUNCTION

    1. If the engine switch is pressed with the shift lever in P or N and the brake pedal depressed, the main body ECU determines that it is an engine start request.

    2. The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and other ECUs perform key verification via LIN communication.

    3. The main body ECU activates the ACC relay.

    4. The main body ECU activates the IG1 and IG2 relays.

    5. The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) sends a steering UNLOCK signal. The signal is sent to the main body ECU via the steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU).

    6. The main body ECU sends an engine start request signal to the ECM.

    7. The ECM sends an ACC cut request signal to the main body ECU.

    8. The ECM and main body ECU activate the ST relay.

    9. The main body ECU deactivates the ACC relay until the main body ECU detects that the engine has started.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

  1. EMERGENCY ENGINE START CONTROL

    1. If there is a malfunction in the stop light switch assembly or STOP fuse, the signals may not be correctly transmitted to the main body ECU. This may result in the engine not starting even if the engine switch is pressed while the brake pedal is depressed and the shift lever is in P.

      To activate the starter:

      1. Turn the engine switch from off to on (ACC).

      2. Press and hold the engine switch for 15 seconds.

        Tech Tips

After the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly), steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU), ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) and/or ECM are/is replaced, perform the registration procedure for the engine immobiliser system.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK IF ENGINE STARTS (INITIALIZE STEERING LOCK)

    1. Move the shift lever to P.

    2. Open and close the driver door with the engine switch off.

    3. Check if the engine can be started.

      OK
      Engine can be started.

      Tech Tips

After the battery is discharged and then recharged or replaced, the engine may not start unless the steering lock is initialized using the above procedure.
