WARNING LIGHT AND INDICATOR LIGHT INITIAL CHECK
Release the parking brake.
Note
Before releasing the parking brake, move the shift lever to P for safety.
Tech Tips
When the parking brake is applied or the level of the brake fluid is low, the brake warning light comes on.
When the engine switch is turned on (IG), check that the ABS warning and SLIP indicator lights come on for approximately 3 seconds.
Tech Tips
If the skid control ECU stores any DTCs, the ABS warning, brake warning and SLIP indicator lights will come on.
If the indicator remains on or does not come on, proceed to troubleshooting for the light circuits listed below.
| Trouble Area | See Procedure |
|---|---|
| ABS warning light circuit (Remains on) | |
| ABS warning light circuit (Does not come on) | |
| Brake warning light circuit (Remains on) | |

Switch the skid control ECU to Test Mode using the intelligent tester. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Signal Check.
Check that the ABS warning light and SLIP indicator light come on for several seconds in Test Mode.
Tech Tips
If the ABS warning light and SLIP indicator light do not blink, inspect the TS and CG terminal circuit and ABS warning and SLIP indicator light circuits.
| Trouble Area | See Procedure |
|---|---|
| TS and CG terminal circuit | |
| ABS warning light circuit (Remains on) | |
| ABS warning light circuit (Does not come on) | |

Tech Tips
Check that the ABS warning light is blinking in Test Mode and perform the check.
VSC OFF SWITCH CHECK (for Using an Intelligent Tester)
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Check that the VSC OFF indicator light is not illuminated.
Check that the TRC OFF message is displayed on the multi-information display.
Perform either of the following to inspect the VSC OFF switch.
Check that the VSC OFF indicator light changes from off to on when the VSC OFF switch is pressed and held for 3 seconds or more.
Check that the TRC OFF message on the multi-information display goes from displayed to not displayed when the VSC OFF switch is pressed but not held for 3 seconds or more.
VACUUM FAILURE CHECK (for Using an Intelligent Tester)
Note
Perform the check in the lost booster pressure state (negative pressure in the booster is depressurized).
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Check that the brake warning light comes on when depressing the brake pedal with a force of 66 N (7 kgf, 14.7 lbf) or more for 1 second or more. (The lost booster pressure state is judged to be normal.)
Start the engine depressing the brake pedal with a force of 66 N (7 kgf, 14.7 lbf) or more for 1 second or more.
Check that the brake warning light goes off when quickly releasing the brake pedal. (The lost booster pressure state is judged to be normal.)
If the lost booster pressure state is not judged to be normal, the brake warning light blinks continuously and DTC ABS81 (C1281) is recorded.
Leave the vehicle as is for 1 second or more.
Note
If the lost booster pressure judgment check is not completed normally, the master cylinder pressure sensor check is not judged.
If a recheck is performed after the engine has started, end the Test Mode, enter Test Mode again, and release the vacuum in the booster by pumping the brake pedal prior to the recheck.
SPEED SENSOR CHECK (for Using an Intelligent Tester)
Drive the vehicle straight-ahead.
Accelerate the vehicle to a speed of 55 km/h (34 mph) or more for several seconds, and then depress the brake pedal.
Check that the ABS warning light goes off.
Tech Tips
The sensor check may not be completed if wheel spin occurs.
The ABS warning light goes off when the sensor check has been completed and the brake pedal is depressed.
The ABS warning light comes on immediately after a malfunction has been detected during the speed sensor check.
Stop the vehicle.
Note
The speed sensor check may not be completed if the speed sensor check is started while turning the steering wheel or spinning the wheels.
If the sensor check has not been completed, the ABS warning light will blink while driving and the ABS system will not operate.
Tech Tips
When the sensor check has been completed, the ABS warning light goes off while driving and blinks in the Test Mode pattern while stationary.
END OF SENSOR CHECK (for Using an Intelligent Tester)
If the sensor check is completed, the ABS warning light blinks (Test Mode) when the vehicle stops and the ABS warning light is off while the vehicle is driving.
Note
If the sensor check is not completed, the ABS warning light blinks even while the vehicle is driving and the ABS does not operate.
READ DTC OF SENSOR CHECK FUNCTION (for Using an Intelligent Tester)
Read the DTC(s) by following the tester display.
Note
If only the DTCs are displayed, repair the malfunction area and clear the DTCs.
If the DTCs or Test Mode codes (DTC of sensor check function) are displayed, repair the malfunction area, clear the DTCs and perform Test Mode inspection.
Tech Tips
See the list of DTC (See procedure "A").

Tech Tips
If more than 1 malfunction is detected at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
See the list of DTCs (See procedure "A").
After performing the check, disconnect SST from terminals TS and CG, and TC and CG of the DLC3, and turn the engine switch off.
Turn the engine switch on (IG) to cancel the Test Mode.
Tech Tips
If the engine switch is not turned on (IG) after SST is removed from the DLC3, the previous Test Mode will continue.
