If any of the following DTCs are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode to allow the vehicle to be driven temporarily.
| DTC Code | Component | Fail-Safe Operation | Fail-Safe Deactivation Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| P0031 and P0032 | Air fuel ratio sensor heater (sensor 1) | ECM turn off air fuel ratio sensor heater | Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
| P0037 and P0038 | Heated oxygen sensor heater (sensor 2) | ECM turn off heated oxygen sensor heater | Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
| P0100, P0102 and P0103 | Mass air flow meter sub-assembly | ECM calculates ignition timing according to engine speed and throttle valve position | Pass condition is detected. |
| P0110, P0112 and P0113 | Intake air temperature sensor | The ECM sets intake air temperature at 20°C (68°F). | Pass condition is detected. |
| P0115, P0117 and P0118 | Engine coolant temperature sensor | The ECM sets engine coolant temperature at 80°C (176°F). | Pass condition is detected. |
| P0120, P0121, P0122, P0123, P0220, P0222, P0223, P0604, P0606, P0607, P060A, P060D, P060E, P0657, P1607, P2102, P2103, P2111, P2112, P2118, P2119 and P2135 | Electronic throttle control system | The ECM turns off the throttle motor power and the throttle valve is returned to 6.5° throttle position by return spring. The ECM then adjusts engine output by controlling fuel injection (intermittent fuel-cut) and ignition timing in accordance with accelerator pedal angle, to allow vehicle to continue at minimal speed.*1 |
Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
| P0327 and P0328 | Knock control sensor | The ECM sets ignition timing to maximum retard. | The engine switch is off. |
| P0351, P0352, P0353 and P0354 | Ignition coil assembly | The ECM cuts fuel. | Pass condition for the ignition system is detected. |
| P0504 | Stop light switch assembly | The ECM sets accelerator pedal operating angle. | Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
| P2120, P2122, P2123, P2125, P2127 and P2128 | Accelerator pedal sensor assembly | The ECM restricts engine output. | Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
| P2121 and P2138 | Accelerator pedal sensor assembly | The ECM sets idle speed. | Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
| P2237, P2238, P2239, P2252 and P2253 | Air fuel ratio sensor (sensor 1) | Air fuel ratio feedback control is stopped. | Pass condition is detected and then the engine switch is turned on (IG) again. |
Note
*1: The vehicle can be driven slowly when the accelerator pedal is depressed slowly. If the accelerator pedal is depressed quickly, the vehicle may speed up and slow down erratically.
