REAR AXLE SHAFT REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note


    • w/ Navigation System (for HDD):

      After the ignition switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately a minute to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch off, wait a minute or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  2. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  3. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

  4. DISCONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE LH

      Remove the union bolt and gasket from the rear disc brake cylinder, and then disconnect the rear flexible hose from the rear disc brake cylinder.

      Tech Tips

      Use a container to catch brake fluid as it drains out.

  5. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH


    1. A0098OG

      Disconnect the speed sensor connector.

    2. Remove the nut and speed sensor.

      Note

      Pull out the sensor while trying as much as possible not to rotate it.

  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the parking brake assembly Click here.

  7. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT WITH PARKING BRAKE PLATE LH

      Remove the 4 nuts and rear axle shaft with parking brake plate.

    2. Remove the O-ring.

  8. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT OIL SEAL LH

    1. Using SST, remove the rear axle shaft oil seal.
