SHIFT LEVER REMOVAL

  1. PRECAUTION

    CAUTION:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing Click here.

    Note

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  3. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH

    1. Disengage the 10 claws and remove the front door scuff plate LH.

  5. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Remove the clip.

    2. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the cowl side trim sub-assembly LH.

  6. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH

    1. Disconnect the front door opening trim weatherstrip LH.

  7. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH

    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 claws as shown in the illustration.

    2. Disengage the 3 guides and remove the instrument side panel LH as shown in the illustration.

  8. DISCONNECT HOOD LOCK CONTROL LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Disengage the claw and 2 guides to disconnect the hood lock control lever sub-assembly.

  9. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the bolt <B> and screw <C> or <D>.

    2. Disengage the 4 claws, 9 clips and 3 guides to remove the lower No. 1 instrument panel finish panel assembly.

  10. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  11. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  12. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH

    1. Disconnect the front door opening trim weatherstrip RH.

  13. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH

    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 claws as shown in the illustration.

    2. Disengage the 3 guides to remove the instrument side panel RH as shown in the illustration.

  14. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Disengage the 4 claws.

    2. Disengage the 2 guides to remove the No. 2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

  15. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

    CAUTION:

    When storing the lower No. 2 instrument panel airbag assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Remove the 3 bolts.

    4. Disengage the 3 claws to remove the lower No. 2 instrument panel airbag assembly.

      Note

      When removing the lower No. 2 instrument panel airbag assembly, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

    5. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock.

    6. Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the lower No. 2 instrument panel airbag assembly.

      Note

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  16. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 screws <C> or <D>.

    2. Open the lower instrument panel door.

    3. Remove the 3 screws <C> or <D>.

    4. Disengage the 2 clips and guide.

    5. Disengage the glove compartment light as shown in the illustration.

    6. Disconnect each connector and remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.

  17. REMOVE BOX BOTTOM MAT

    1. Remove the box bottom mat.

  18. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 screws <C> or <D>.

    2. Disengage the 4 clips and guide as shown in the illustration.

    3. Disconnect each connector to remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

  19. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX INSERT

    1. Disengage the 2 claws to disconnect the room temperature sensor from the front No. 2 console box insert.

    2. Remove the 2 screws <C> or <D>.

    3. Disengage the clip and 3 guides to remove the front No. 2 console box insert as shown in the illustration.

  20. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX INSERT

    1. Remove the 2 screws <C> or <D>.

    2. Disengage the clip and 3 guides to remove the console box insert as shown in the illustration.

  21. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET BRACKET LH

    1. Remove the 2 clips.

    2. Disengage the 2 guides to remove the floor carpet bracket LH.

  22. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX MOUNTING BRACKET

    1. Remove the screw and No. 1 console box mounting bracket from the lower shift lever assembly.

  23. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT (w/ Rear Register Duct)

    1. Remove the clip and No. 1 console box duct.

  24. REMOVE LOWER SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY

    1. Move the shift lever to N.

    2. Disconnect the end of transmission control cable assembly from the lower shift lever assembly.

    3. Disengage the 2 claws and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the lower shift lever assembly.

    4. Disconnect the 3 clamps and 2 connectors.

    5. Remove the 4 bolts and lower shift lever assembly.

  25. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER SUPPORT

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and shift lever support.
