INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
When shifting from P to R with the ignition switch ON and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and correctly into P.
Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when the shift lever is moved from N to D and moves rearward when the shift lever is moved to R.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and inspect the shift lock control unit.
INSPECT SHIFT LOCK OPERATION
Move the shift lever to P.
Turn the ignition switch off.
Check that the shift lever cannot be moved from P to any other position.
Turn the ignition switch to ON, depress the brake pedal, and check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit.
INSPECT SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION
Turn the ignition switch off.
Using a screwdriver, remove the shift lock release button cover.
When moving the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed, check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit.
INSPECT KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION (w/o Smart Key System)
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to any position other than P.
Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK.
Move the shift lever to P, turn the ignition key to LOCK and check that the ignition key can be removed.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit.
