TRANSMISSION CASE OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT


  1. REMOVE MANUAL TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the manual transmission Click here.

  2. REMOVE FRONT BEARING RETAINER (MTM)

    A0156BM

    1. Remove the 8 bolts and front bearing retainer.

  3. REMOVE TRANSMISSION FRONT BEARING RETAINER OIL SEAL

    A0156K8

    1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the oil seal.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the oil seal and front bearing retainer contact surfaces.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  4. INSTALL TRANSMISSION FRONT BEARING RETAINER OIL SEAL

    A01558ZE01

    1. Using SST and a press, drive in a new oil seal.

      SST
      09950-60010   ( 09951-00460 )
      09950-70010   ( 09951-07150 )
      Standard Drive in Depth
      15.4 to 16.2 mm (0.607 to 0.637 in.)

    2. Apply gear oil to the lip of the oil seal.

  5. INSTALL FRONT BEARING RETAINER (MTM)

    A0156CZE02

    1. Apply seal packing to the front bearing retainer, as shown in the illustration.

      Seal Packing
      Toyota Genuine Seal Packing 1281, Three Bond 1281 or equivalent

      Note

      Parts must be assembled within 10 minutes of application. Otherwise, the packing (FIPG) material must be removed and reapplied.

    2. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolts.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
    3. A0156BM

      Install the front bearing retainer with the 8 bolts.

      Torque:
      17 N*m  { 170 kgf*cm, 12 ft.*lbf }
