P0020 Camshaft Position "A" Actuator Circuit (Bank 2)

DESCRIPTION

A0155LQE13
DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0010 Open or short in the camshaft timing oil control valve (for intake side of bank 1) circuit (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in camshaft timing oil control valve (for intake side of bank 1) circuit

  • Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side of bank 1)

  • ECM

P0020 Open or short in the camshaft timing oil control valve (for intake side of bank 2) circuit (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in camshaft timing oil control valve (for intake side of bank 2) circuit

  • Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side of bank 2)

  • ECM

Tech Tips

These DTCs relate to the camshaft timing oil control valves.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs are designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the duty-cycle for the camshaft timing oil control valve is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  • Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*.

*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.

  • Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC (DTC P0010 OR P0020)

    1. Clear the DTCs after recording the freeze frame data and DTCs.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Allow the engine to idle and check for DTCs.

    4. Check that P0010 or P0020 is output.

      OK
      P0010 or P0020 is output.

    NG
    OK
  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for Intake Side of Bank 1, 2) Click here.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
